90% of the American people say that it's okay to have "In God We trust" on U.S. currency. Are you one of the 90%? Why and Why not?

It should definitely be removed, church and state/government should be separated. I collect old us currency not sure exactly the date when this started but I have a few bills that do not have In god we trust on them.

3

No it is not ok. Because god doesn't exist. 90% are duped.

I'd prefer the phrase be gone, but its not something I'm going to get worked up about...so I guess I'm in the 90%.

Similarly with the pledge of allegiance, I much prefer removing the "under God" portion. If anything the US is a secular nation and the founding fathers were either deists or agnostic. I firmly believe that the founding fathers wanted to keep religion out of the constitution and invoke separation of church and state because of the damage it caused in great Britain.

I wonder what it is supposed to imply? We trust god to make money work, god won't let somebody counterfeit it or what? I'm being serious, it's a nonsensical motto.

2

Fine with me if it keeps the stupid people happy!

2

I don't care either way. Doesn't affect my ability to spend it at the store or strip club. MAKE IT RAAAAAAAIN!

2

I kind of don't care. We are quickly becoming a cashless society. I barely use paper money and essentially do not use coinage at all. It's almost an irrelevant question.

Well if money is the root of all evil, I guess it makes sense.Personally, I don't like it.

1

Yeah that kind of chaps my ass a bit. It is an assumption made by a government that was falling sway to a small group of idiots, who now think that was always the case here in this country.

Get god out of my life. One of the things I enjoy about Australia, we don't start meetings with a prayer, and god isn't on anything! God does not belong in the US pledge either.

I'll take "Advance Australia Fair," over the unsingable Star Bangled Spaner any day.

Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea:
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page let every stage
Advance Australia fair,
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands,
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands,
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share,
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia fair.

And, no, most Aussies can't remember the second verse! And the second verse, no, the government is no longer willing to share. $750,000 bond to retire here!

I would like to see it disappear from the currency.

It appears to be an empty, meaningless phrase that gives comfort to the delusional. Trust god to do what in relation to money? Which god? Kind of like sending prayers in the midst of a tragedy, nothing really accomplished but someone somewhere feels that they've done something relevant.

1

I'm not one of the 90% due to the fact that I can't trust a god who fails to be godly, whatever that may be.

Not any more. The religious right is pushing god into government constantly and this is just another instance of pushing religion.
I particulary object to the addition of "under god" to the Pledge of Alliegance.

I don't care one way or another. This is a pointless battle.

90% of the people they surveyed, maybe. What cross-section of the population did they survey? I'm not buying it. (even with my God-tainted money)

There are many polls with different numbers, all with the majority being in favor. If a poll were taken 5 mins. from now I would bet on the majority being in favor. Your skepticism is appreciated.

0

I don't care about currency and don't believe in god so I should not be trusted with an opinion.

0

That survey was a sample set of 100 people.

That's well below the threshold to be considered valid.

There are a variety of polls, all of them having the majority in favor of "In God We Trust". I apologize if I inadvertently misled you by not stating up front that there are many polls with different numbers. Your skepticism is appreciated. So where do you stand? The point was... are you in favor or not?

@MrTallman I'm opposed to religious crap in my secular capitalism.

0

I don't like it one bit.

0

No i am not apart of that 90% because in law it states to keep the Church and state seperate. To me the in god we trust on our money is just as wrong as saying they need to bring god back in to schools. First off either bring ALL GODS in school and on the money, or NONE.

0

Firstly, I question the legitimacy of that poll, 90% of Americans are fine with that phrase on our currency. Then again, there are alot of folks in this country who are brainwashed by religion. I'm vehemently opposed to such a divisive phrase, it needs to go. We need to get back to the original de facto motto- E Pluribus Unum!

as the dollar is built on pure belief anyway . why not?

Doesnt bother me
