The last time some segment of Americans was willing to throw a significant proportion of a generation under a bus we were all appalled retrospectively. I'm pretty sure history will judge is poorly on this repeat of generational genocide.
@prometheus There’s the Swedish method that is backed by professionals there. Sweden has more deaths at this point than its neighbors, yet the Swedish people overwhelmingly support their government’s policy.
I’m not sure what you are talking about. Is it the Vietnam War? The analogy doesn’t fit. Fifty thousand is not the entire generation for one thing, and another fact is that the Coronavirus deaths are overwhelmingly among older people with other health problems. It is a generation that has already lived and is approaching death anyway. Are we all appalled? That’s simply not the case.
The vast majority will only suffer mild symptoms or no symptoms and will then be immune. Those people need to be out there working and living—keeping things going. Individuals who want to remain in lockdown have the option to do so.
