So this happened today.

My came over for a visit and ran in all excited saying there was big turtle just sitting in the middle of the street and she worried it might get run over. So was I so she took me to it. It was a good 40yards from the nearest water which is a pond next to my house. I picked it up and walked it to the pond, set it down about 2ft in front of the water and it shot in faster than I ever thought a turtle could move.

Life saved! I'm definitely getting into Heaven now.

I always felt if there was a "heaven" , you save an animal and you're in.

I can get with that.

Good job!

I couldn't get that close to McConnell to do it.

Oh, now I see. You meant a real turtle. Good goin'.

I can see the resemblance too but if it had been McConnell, I'd have run over him myself.

I'm going with you. Anytime I see a turtle, frog, or tortoise, on the road, I stop the car and move it off the road.

Good job. Reminds me of a story I read years ago about an experiment in human behavior in which a fake turtle was placed on a road to see what drivers would do in such a situation . I do not remember the Percentage but a good many drivers actually went out of their way to actually run over the turtle . I could not believe there was so many sick people out there.

No one ever lost money betting on just how shitty some human beings can be.

Nicely done!

I regularly save frogs by getting them out of the pool.
Does that count??

That does count. I guess you'll be joining me in Heaven. We'll hang out on clouds, share some sacramental wine, smoke some sacramental grass. It'll be fun.

@Sgt_Spanky I'll settle for feeling good about my actions now.
You know, cuz when you're dead, you're dead.
I'd rather smoke the grass now, thanks!
😉

@KKGator Sounds like a plan.

@KKGator -- That's a good thing because they make a horrible mess going through the pump. 😛

Rrrrribit....

I wish I had frogs in my pond.

It's a softshell turtle - and for them it is egg laying time ! I just rescued one the other day about twice the size of yours. I put her in a garbage can to move her - she was too big and heavy.

For the future - this one tolerated you - but they are known to have some serious attitude, and have a fierce bite - and a long neck, which can reach around to where your hands are ! Best to slide one hand under them, between the hind legs to support, with the other hand on top of the shell - staying in the middle.
Thank you for saving her !

He (or she. what do I know about turtle genders) struggled a little but was pretty cooperative for the most part.

One of my rottweilers got into a fight with a snapping turtle. The turtle almost won. I finally got my dog kenneled up and the turtle went on its way.

Looks like a soft shell pointy nosed pond turtle.

Correct.

I saved a tortoise in a similar manner. Picked it up and it hissed like a snake and was none too happy with me picking it up. I took it to the other side of the road and put it down. It ran fast, stopped, looked back, and proceeded to borough itself into the sand.
