The protection of Terrian nature is a human obligation, because the humans are the most evolved Terrians and they have also the means to protect the historical evolution. What can we do to protect better our World-Family and to ensure the pursuit of a moral evolution?
"Our origins are of the earth. And so there is in us a deeply seated response to the natural universe, which is part of our humanity." - Rachel Carson
"Carson examined the question of beauty as a lens on comprehending the universe in a stunning speech she delivered before a summit of women journalists in 1954, later published under the title “The Real World Around Us” in Lost Woods: The Discovered Writing of Rachel Carson (public library) — the indispensable volume that gave us Carson’s prescient 1953 protest against the government’s assault on science and nature. Life consumes life. You have to say yea to that. In our society the tenderminded often have issues with that notion of life eating itself and some go so far as to say life shouldn't be that way. And so they try to change nature. Usually they start by becoming vegetarians. It was Scopenhauer who said after realizing this that "Life is something that should not have been" Nietzsche came along later and said This is not only how it is, but how it should be. One has to affirm life. One has to say yea to the violence of life and also keep compassion for that which is being eaten.

We are a runaway species? I'm about convinced that this may be a reason we haven't encountered intelligent life in the universe (aside from the deep space and time problem). Evolution is competition for resources and a species that evolves intelligence will not only out compete all other species, they will keep competing among themselves until they have destroyed all of their resources or have killed themselves out some other way.

I have always had the perspective that any "self aware" tool utilizing intelligence has the unique opportunity to become caretakers of their enviroment. We have a responsibility to take care of the tiny fragile biosphere surrounding & supporting us.

Cut down our population drastically.

I join your conversation by asking: How?
One should use statements instead of questions. One reason is that it is more difficult to provide an answer than to ask anything. But among other things related to this method of restoring some balance we can discuss how we can decrease our population. (It might start decreasing soon without us planning for it.)

@JulianD if we don't start it has no choice than to be no longer in our hands. we need to work together and each couple everywhere have one child and then the same again till we are down to 2 billion then stay there. this will never happen so its going to be the hard way.

@LeighShelton I find it very important to improve the relationship between men and women. I would like one effect of this to be a more balanced variation of the population.
What is the hard way that you are foretelling or suggesting?

@JulianD we must all be as one or there is no chance. the hard way is we use everything up and run out of everything and start turning on each other for resources etc.

Actually we've been evolving for just as long as every other species. We all started at the same point. Our responsibility to the planet comes from two sources.

  1. Our awareness, we alone have this pre-requisite for an informed response to the threats that are faced by our ecosystem
  2. Our precarious dependence on this ecosystem. You see "nature" isn't under threat. Certainly we're losing individual species at an alarming rate but there is a precident for that. Nature will continue with the remaining species and their decendents will cope just fine as they adapt to whatever new normal we might leave behind whether that's Global Warming or Nuclear Winter. What's in the balance is whether humanity's decendents will be counted amongst them.

I don't like what you said, not that you said it. You are right. It is something I am fully aware of, but on a day to day basis deny to myself. In many ways it makes all my work to save the environment pretty meaningless. On the other hand, I like much of what exists now and would like to see it continue a while longer, at least another 6 or so generations.

@Rugglesby How can I get to understand your work? We can discuss our motivation to preserve our environment, too.

@JulianD Hey Julianm I try and keep my world very simple, I love to understand things, but I accept I cannot change many, but also in the nothing makes any difference. The universe will die, long before that the sun will so if I spill a glass of milk this morning, it won't make any difference. Anything I do now will be totally gone in a few hundred years at best. There is existence and non existence, there are living things, non living things and dead things. There is ultimately no good or evil, They are are based on a personal perspective. personal decision. So everything I think and do is based on my own values. Things I like and things that enhance things I like are good. Things I don't like and things that destroy things I like are bad. Lightning killing one of my fruit trees is bad. To me evil does not exist outside human activity. Some terrorist deciding to kill people is evil, from my perspective many Australian politicians are evil because the help destroty the environment. Now a crazy person who goes on a shooting rampage, is evil, but what if one of the people he kills would have otherwise become another Hitler? So long term and outside my own mind, it all means nothing. However in my life, I attempt to enhance things I like and prevent their destruvtion so future generations can also enjoy them and have a safe place to live. This goes for future generations of all living things.
