Answer to Why donโt atheists have the guts to mock Islam? by Alif Ayman [quora.com]
At least in the states, there's a certain aspect of it that I consider "punching down."
I wrote this years back with regard to my interactions with individuals versus my take on their belief system.
:-----:
People are =/= to their religion.
"I am most definitely an infidel in that I have no belief in any god or gods. A personโs individual godview is the most basic right possible that a human being can have. I personally reject Islam, Judaism, and Christianity (among others)โฆ but do not reject Muslims, Jews, and Christians. A personโs religion and religious culture are most predictably based on their family of origin, where they were born (geography), and when they were born (i.e. no Xians pre-Christ).
I stand with all people on the planet willing to work together as a species to live peacefully with each other and our environment. That does not change regardless of the actions of some who think their โgodviewโ justifies any number of horrible acts.
I reject those who use such acts to demonize people who are damned for nothing more than โguilt by association.โ"

Until religious groups unless begin telling us they should have special privileges (like not paying taxes) BECAUSE they are Christians, I don't normally mock them. Until Christians begin to make statements of how evil and horrible everybody is who is not Christian, I don't mock them. Until Christians begin saying that atheists have no moral compass, I do not mock them. I do have several Muslim friends and they never say any of that stuff so I don't ever mock them.
Also, under the headline, there was a pretty funny typo - "The Satanic Verses led to death treats"
