Do you ever envy the ethnic clothes of other cultures?
I sure do. Here in Thailand I routinely wear Thai-style clothing, and design/make my clothes out of Thai cloth. Yet I envy the gorgeous clothing of my Muslim friends as well...both male and female.

I think Indian saris are so lovely. I have asked several Indian friends would it be considered disrespectful for a non-Indian to wear one, and I was told "absolutely not"! Even the osner of an Indian market I frequent said the same thing, so I may purchase one in the near future.
I asked a friend too. She said "I wear western clothes most days - clothes are clothes!"
Ilove ethnic clothing. Whenever I traveled I always bought clothing from other countries. Always into a gypsy style/hippie style I love peasant tops from Mexico, batik prints from Carribean and Arab peasant dresses from Israel. Long colorful American Indian inspired skirts and a lover of turquoise, silver, cats eye and onyx jewelry I am never boring.
That's so beautiful. I sew costumes and research historical outfits for fun. I do not understand this hoopla over "cultural appropriation" so many are complaining about. Clothing can be GORGEOUS and who cares where it came from? I love the Indian dress...I'd even wear the men's styles...those pants! I'm largely Polish and those Slavs like their colors!
I am alright either way. Standing out or blending in.
Suppose my short answer would be, no. Though, having moved from Oregon (born in Portland), to rural Appalachia - it feels like a foreign culture And, Iβve been revising my attire to match the local conditions, like warmth & functionality over water-repellent and ..style. It is fun to see how the βlocalsβ admire your attempt to imitate their look
When my family and I moved to Missouri from southern California, we suffered from culture shock. I've never seen so many slobs in one place! My oldest daughter to this day dresses like a city girl with class and refuses to fit in. She sticks out, let me tell you. Its been fun to observe...especially when she went through her Victorian Goth phase in a sea of denim and camo....
@Freespirit64 βespecially when she went through her Victorian Goth phase in a sea of denim and camo....β Perhaps my best laugh all day My daughters experienced that same at their rural Oregon school/s. Out of college now, one visited me in rural VA last fall. She definitely turned heads, if only for βbeing in shape,β as well as her West Coast fashion
Absolutely. For some reason American culture bores me. But I always felt close to culture and traditional garb of Ukraine (my cultural heritage). Primarily Vyshyvanka--an embroidered shirt. I have 6 of them. Some womens clothing desiners have recently been using the style in modern clothing lines.
