What newspaper/s do you read
I read two of my local papers to keep up with local news. For the bigger picture I read The Nation. I find them to be one of the few unbiased sources of information out there. Iknow, Iknow, that many reading this will say that they have a liberal bent. The only reason that it may appear that way to some, is because they don't recognize just how far to the extreme corporate right that the dialogue in this country has been pushed over the last fifty years. All you have to do is look at the almost total lack of corporate advertisements in their pages and you can easily see that they don't answer to any huge corporate conglomerate. They are able to print the truth as they see it. There are occasionally articles written that I don't agree with and appear to have a strong conservative angle, but they are balanced with the other viewpoints as well. This is very hard to find in other broadcast and print media today.
None. The media is usually wrong, they praised Ronald Reagan who started the 'import led boom' which is a nice way of saying 'overspending' and pretty consistently have gotten it wrong for decades.
Even Noam Chomsky, a self-proclaimed liberal decries the media as usually completely wrong.
Being middle class he has a viewpoint bias but he is pretty dang good.
I saw his film at the QFT 'Manufacturing Consent' it had a big impression on me and I have always loved that man
Once you understand his points they all seem just so obvious.
The news is owned by multimillionaires and billionaires and they tell people to do things that help them, of course it doesn't help anyone else and the best thing to do is dump the media entirely.
Take a recent example. Hillary Clinton lost. She spent twice as much as DT but still lost. Not only did the media say she would win but after she lost they refused to give out the reasons and have continued to do so.
Worse than even that they are lying about her and her policies.
People say if you don't read a newspaper or watch the news how do you keep up with what's going on in the World?
You either are in it experiencing the World or you are somewhere off as a spectator because you can't understand it just by using opera glasses even if they actually did work.
They still print those?
yes here in jolly old england we do buy newspapers
@jacpod I always admired England
I don't at the moment - denmark and sweden sound much better than us we just have greedy bankers and politicians with offshore tax havens and people who are in need are getting seriously stuffed - Children arent getting enough to eat its all very pitiful- If it gets much worse the U.S will be sending us food parcels as they did in the war
@jacpod Yes, but it's still better than USA, just my opinion and I agree Denmark & Sweden appear to be the go to place.
By then Mexico will be richer, and Cuba may also be sending food parcels, good stuff, not from US factory farmed animals. Both Britain and the US are heading into trouble, thank Maggie and Ronnie for it.
IF I am out for breakfast I will read the Omaha World Herald. At home I will read BBC, Al Jazera, CNN, and MSN online. I haven't subscribed to a newspaper in years.
BBC... Al-Jazeera... That's about it... Oh.. And the Style magazine in the Sunday New York Times..lol... The media has gotten so biased these days.. I enjoy world news mostly... But you have to be careful from what source it comes from.
yes I am realising that the world press has got really into manipulating us.
The local newspaper mostly for fun events in the area, BBC, CNN, Huffpost, The Nation, Slate.
History news network (excellent for the historical perspective of today's news). I especially like BBC News because it appears to be somewhat unbiased. They cover world news and they include other areas of interest such as science and culture.
The BBC used to be really good at being even handed but they are getting much more biased than they ever were; but maybe thats just because of our political situation the establishment probably doesn't want a socialist government in power
