What are your favorite sacrilegious quotes, lyrics, movie scenes, etc.? I've always enjoyed the Devil's (Al Pacino's) description of God as a sadist and an absentee landlord in "The Devil's Advocate."

Better to laugh with the sinners than to cry with the saints. Not sure where I heard it but always loved this saying.

I'm unsure whether it's original to him, but Billy Joel used a similar line in "Only the Good Die Young."

Yeah I was recently told that its good a thing to because it was starting to gnaw at me wondering where I heard it

I'm not a slave to a god that doesn't exist. Marilyn Manson's the fight song

On the ridiculous side the recent spew (don't remember who) justifying Roy Moore's obsession for teens was "Mary was a teenager". So god is a pedophile? LOL

Jesus Christ walks into a Motel 6, hands the guy three nails, and asks him to put him up for the night.

"He's not the Messiah - he's a very naughty boy" - From Monty Python's Life of Brian - the most cathartic movie I have ever seen!

There are currently three seasons of a period drama on PBS called Poldark. I just finished it last night. It takes place in England in the 1700s. In the third season, two brothers join the cast and one of them (Sam) is fire-and-brimstone religious. At first, I was a bit irritated that religion was going to taint my new favorite show, but almost every time Sam gives someone a hard time because what they're doing is sinful (like dancing or talking about love) the other character will quip back that god/jesus seems really dull and no fun.

The other major christian in the story is a vicar who is a disgusting monster.

I just finished that too. that guy can't get a break

In an episode of the Simpsons where Homer stopped going to church, he made himself a waffle with caramel squares and chocolate chips in it and wraps it around a stick of butter one Sunday morning. He bites into it and declares that it's "sacralicious". My eyes teared up, I was laughing so hard.

LoL!!! I love that!

great!

My favourite sacrilegious quote comes from Jim Shelton's The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, a 3 part story called "The Idiots Abroad" in which Freewheelin' Franklin says "Is The Bear Catholic? Does The Pope Shit In The Woods?".

Faith
n. Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.
Devil's Dictionary, Ambrose Bierce

Good call! The Devil's Dictionary is a wonderful read. I have a copy of it around here somewhere.

"I am alone. I look at the heavens and think them empty. And if not empty, I find the idea of worshiping whatever dwells there obscene. It doesn't change what is right. If there is nothing in this world but what we make, brothers...let us make good."

When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!
But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!

Deform to Form a Star

  • Steven Wilson

Oh once in a while
I learn how to smile
Horses shadows and rain on stone

No God here I’m sure
This must be the cure
For all this carrion and aimless drift

Retreat from the begging
And invites to the wedding
Revelation means nothing here

In time we forget our
Need to devour
All the stories of tortured souls

Crawl into your arms
Become the night forever
Coiled and close, the moment froze
Deform to form a star
Here on earth together
I got time to share and a well used stare

This smile isn’t pure
Certain or sure
Cold precision was never there

The way we uncoil
Return to the soil
Flaws are everything and chaos reigns

What about love? Chemically no different from eating large amounts of chocolate!

Dawkin's description of God:

“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”

Yeah! And those are his good traits 😉
