Another kite story...no men are missed in this story. So, I lived in the mountains on a ranch w horses, llama, pigs, cows, (shoveling cow shit in the winter is shitty), chicks, ducklings killed by foxes, oh yeah pigs didn't fare well either, a bear sliced the throat of the them when we were all out of town. I lived a communal life on the ranch, if I knew u better I'd tell u it was a long term shelter for women n children but commune sounds better (it was a "xtian" run shelter that was a clusterfuck of shaming, legalism, more shame, u deserve hell kinda place) Anyway, back to kites. Several of the kids that lived there were flying kites, my 6 year old son was flying a kite too. I needed to step inside so I wrapped his line thru the fence because I'd been helping him hold on to it and knew he would let go so wrapping around the fence would keep it fr flying away if/when he let go. So I'm inside and of the older boys came running in and told me my son's kite had been caught in the fence so he untangled it and of course my son let go and it blew away, it was strong winds so we didn't recover the kite, cue the crying, however I was trying not to laugh cuz it was funny too.

When I was little I got a kite amazing high. Winding out on a stick I had stuck in the hole on the string. It was blazing through that string.
And then the end of the string came and there was nothing I could do but watch it continue to soar until it was out of sight.

I was shocked and really only sad for a second or two. Because it was an amazing thing to see.

It was like watching Elsa wander off to live her free wild life.

Mom -Where's your kite?
Me - It's gone.
Mom - What do you mean gone. In a tree?
Me - It flew away.
Mom - Loud Sigh. Head in the clouds child.

Do they even sell those cheap paper kites with the fleki wood anymore?

I haven't seen one in ages.
