From the beginning, I wondered if we, at Agnostic. , were part of an experiment, particularly in light of the secrecy of the benefactor and Admin. What do you think?

Edit: changed wording to say wondered instead of suspected. Some people seem to be a little too concerned here.

Are we Guinea pigs?

I'm not sure if we are Guinea pigs or not. But I messaged the Admin and asked if the site can be trusted, meaning that its not spying and collecting information on people who are not following the status quo and never got an answer. ???

I would assume that, like any other website, especially a "free" one, data are collected, but not necessarily for nefarious reasons. There are a number of people who are concerned with the website recently for other reasons.

Paranoia strikes deep into your heart it will creep it starts with a man over there telling you you've got to beware. IMO I really could not find a good reason to give a rats ass. 🙄

Are you suggesting I am paranoid? Lighten up already.

@itsmedammit actually no, I just quoted a song, what's the matter you paranoid 🤔

@oldFloyd I see. Stop hey, what's that sound.

@itsmedammit I actually do understand your question. 😉

@itsmedammit everybody look what's goin down

We are all part of a great experiment in data collection.

Not sure, but they’ve done well ..and I’ve not asked around… I envision someone providing others with a platform they’d liked to have had in their heydays.. Atheist leaders I’ve known have had some deep pockets, and needed them to stand alone. If anything’s nefarious here, it’s smarter than I am 🙂

They fund it through list sales, but there's no ads and it's free. We're not Guinea Pigs. You fill out stuff every day. You had a choice not to fill in your information and join the site. You chose to apply. Get over it.

Chill. I have nothing to get over.

@itsmedammit Wasn't addressing you specifically. Just commenting. I'm chill. People give more info when they're ordering a coupon for dog food.

Did we pass?

Sharon I have always suspected that someone well known began Agnostic.com.

I would not be surprised. Maybe Silverman.

@itsmedammit Dave has no money and was fired for fornication with insiders

Why else would we be given a free to join and use website, that carries zero advertising? There is no such thing as a truly free lunch, unless the food is utterly awful. We are therefore a choice of one or more of the following.
A source of public opinions with a value to political groups.
An experiment in sociology, with an eye to creating a profitable offspring.
A means of building up a site, with a very large membership, that can later be sold for a good profit.
A database of value to "dubious" organisations, possibly part of a government.

Get the idea??
I find the site fascinating because I get a deep insight into a society completely alien to my own.

It’s possible. But we’re the people who wait for verifiable evidence aren’t we. We aren’t swayed by fear, paranoia, tribalism, or superstition are we. That’s right. We aren’t.
( much )

The evidence is right here. From the horse's mouth.

[slug.com]?

@LovinLarge
Evidence of what exactly?

@skado Of the subject addressed in the poll.

@LovinLarge
I read the article. I’m not really sure of itsme’s intent but I don’t see sufficient evidence in the slug article to verify that admin’s main motivation was only to experiment on people like guinea pigs. Anybody who runs a social website encounters problems that have to be solved. The only way to solve complex social problems is to experiment with solutions. His use of language like “petri dish” was an unfortunate choice of words, but easily within the realm of possible innocence. I don’t much like the idea of being a lab rat, and I can’t see any good reason for the secrecy, but aside from my own feelings of betrayal, paranoia, etc., I haven’t seen (yet) hard evidence that his motives are malevolent.

@skado

  1. "main motivation was only to experiment on people like guinea pigs"

"I haven't seen (yet) hard evidence that his motives are malevolent"

The OP didn't make either of those things part of her poll, you made up both of those things on your own to serve your own purposes.

  1. The article referred to having created "two living 'petri dishes'" where he spent time "analyzing the behavior of members".

You said there was no evidence and rather than objectively analyzing the evidence presented you, you make up things to try to justify the position you took before you saw the evidence. Fucking sad.

@skado Come to think of it, it was a thread of yours off which someone got banned this week. And now this.

Is it you who's keeping admin informed of threads he may not favor?

Chill. It's just an opinion poll.

@LovinLarge
Who got banned?

@skado owl something. I can look it up if that doesn't ring a bell.

@LovinLarge
Owl wasn’t banned. He started deleting his posts and triggered some automated mechanism as best we can figure. I wish I had never made the original post now. I thought people should know what they were a part of, and now all my best friends here are leaving, and I’m getting blamed for it. Humans!

@skado @donotbelieve I understood that he had been banned but perhaps I misunderstood. We have all been placed in an awkward position but I always want to know the truth.

@Donotbelieve
❤️

@LovinLarge Slug is the perfect name for it. It's filled with Christian Right. They hate me and I'm not too crazy about them. They have the same deal and their lists are sold to companies that are trying to target sales to morons.

@Donotbelieve But did it have to do with Owl's leaving?

@Donotbelieve Thank you, I take it you are Owl's reincarnation so we all finally know the answer to that mystery.

@LovinLarge look thru the senate post of the last several days and you will find the explanation of Owls leaving.

@Allamanda I have no idea what you're saying "no" to. As for my thought processes, I'll make my own decisions there.

@Donotbelieve Allamanda posted a goodbye message from Owl yesterday and I got her confused with you, sorry.

@Donotbelieve Listening doesn't help much here. And when a thread gets this long, it gets hard to know what people are responding to when they just say "no".

@skado @ Allamanda Allamanda posted a goodbye message from Owl yesterday saying that admin had suspended his account. I relied on that when I shouldn't have and I won't make that mistake again. I no longer care, unless his account was suspended in which case I feel for him.

@Donotbelieve I understand, thank you.
