Oh what a week, Tuesday I checked and renewed my Lotto entries, I found out I had won a bit of money for the first time in years, a nice little $1,480, I came home with the cash in my pocket after getting my fortnights groceries, stacked them into the pantry, fridge and freezer as always, had a nice hot cup of Coffee, then decided to have an extra shower to ease the aches from walking around and shopping.
Just a few minutes into the shower and all I was getting was very cold water on a very cold day, when I had dried myself and got re-dressed I went and checked the circuit breaker first, it was okay, then checked the Water Heater, it had sprung a leak, a big one, from the storage tank no less.
Rang the Plumbing Suppliers, got a price on a replacement, $999.75 for a new one, they delivered yesterday morning about 11.20 am, and I started removing the defunct one,
Thanks to having a very good friend who is a retired Electrician and my training in Gas Fitting and Plumbing on the Railways,
We had the new one in, filled and the electricity back on inside 2 hours, all I had to do after that was to wait until it had heated the 250 litres of its water capacity.
By 5.00pm I was again standing under a nice shower thanks to a touch of good fortune with the Lotto, otherwise I'd have to been digging into my smallish 'nest-egg' for the money to buy the replacement Heater plus pay for a Plumber and an Electrician to fit it.

I've had a similar experience and it's not comfortable. I'm glad you had it back on line soon but it's a bit sad you couldn't have spent the money on something more leisurely. ๐Ÿคจ

Aunty ScumMo took care of that.
My Stihl MS181 chainsaw is around 10 years old now so I used his 'kind' stimulus money and purchased a Baumr-AG 52cc, 20" new one for just under $290 plus a few luxuries as well.
Read through the 'destructions' ( Instructions) booklet on the Hot Water Heater on Wednesday to find out that, surprise, surprise, it has a twin heater element system, a 10 year warranty on the tank plus the elements are warranted for non-replacement for 4 years as well depending on water conditions.
The sacrificial anode on this one is really easy to access and I can change it every 3-4 years to stop corrosion attacking the water tank.
I've set the thermostat at 65 Celsius and the showers, etc, are now just perfect, the old one had a fixed thermostat unit and the water temps were around 80 Celsius, almost scalding level.

@Triphid It's hard to beat a stinking hot shower ๐Ÿ™‚

@Cyklone One that I reckon comes very close is a nice cold bath to soak in after being out in the hot summers sun working in the gardens or around the yard.

That's good timing for a windfall. Glad you got your hot showers back. Not much worse than a cold shower on a cold day.

Oh, you're not kidding, my 'boy bits' near froze off when the shower went icy cold.
