Herd Immunity occurs when enough of the susceptible population has died. In modern terms the "herd" is the entire human population of the world. While other countries pursue effective strategies to reduce transmission, Trump's America pursues genocide.

Not dies...
Herd immunity is a form of indirect protection from infectious disease that occurs when a sufficient percentage of a population has become immune to an infection, whether through vaccination or previous infections

@Cutiebeauty That's another way to describe it, omitting the death.

@BitFlipper google "herd immunity "
It doesn't mention dying as a requirement...

@Cutiebeauty I'm afraid it does actually, as those who are most susceptible are removed from the gene pool, those who are more resistant live.
It was often wondered up until a few years ago, what happened to the black death from the 7th century, until it was proven by forensic archeology that nothing happened to, it is still here and is a mild form of anthrax that 99.9% of people are immune to. We are the descendants of the survivors and the naturally immune.
Same with the plague of the middle ages, and the strain of bubonic plague from the 17th century.
Trump and Boris try an wrap it up in pseudo science but the are actually talking about a cull.

@LenHazell53 I agree with what you're saying here.. What I've googled about herd immunity , says nothing about death being an actual requirement to achieve it..

@Cutiebeauty Death is not a necessity as not all diseases are fatal. Thus if there was only one strain of cold, we would all get a cold and then we would all be immune from it. Colds usually do not kill. It seems to me that the Covid virus is killing people so death would be an aspect of the herd becoming immune from it.

@dalefvictor exactly... Thanks ☺

@LenHazell53, @dalefvictor @DaleVictor is correct, a Large proportion (well over 2/3) have to get it, quite a few die, (possibly half, or more) the survivors are the "immune herd"

@AnneWimsey Until the Covid virus mutates, which it has done over twelve times so far and counting.

@dalefvictor I know, I personally think herd immunity is a crock, but I like to educate those who think it is some kind of answer.....make 'em think!: ever had the flu more than once? How about the Common Cold? They have been looking for good vaccines for both of those for decades...think of the $$$$ to be made! But, nope.....

@dalefvictor, @Cutiebeauty ummm, read up on The Black Death...every single time it came around. Death is the point, only those with natural resistance survive & breed

@dalefvictor, @Cutiebeauty nope, sorry, the herd gets resistance when all susceptible members die off & the survivors breed more-resistant offspring. Throwing around the term "herd immunity" as if it is something that can be achieved in a few years is just a nasty thing to do! Read up on The Black Death!

@AnneWimsey If enough of the herd dies the rest will be immune. If everyone dies everyone will be dead and immune. It depends on the pathogen. Though it is statistically possible that any virus will not kill everyone, who wants to walk or drive all over the Earth looking for the other person who is immune.
