SpaceX just flew Starship SN6 150 meters high, the second flight of a starship (SN5 previously). There will be reruns on youtube later roday. Starship is designed to carry 100 people and cargo to the Moon and Mars.
Eventually, man must leave this planet (his "nest" if you like) or face extinction from a choice of factors, mainly influenced by overpopulation.
Starvation, war, insurmountable disease, climate changes, etc.
Otherwise, there are the time honoured methods of phenomenal earthquake, erruption or meteor.
Hence, man's long term survival depends on dispersion.
Well put. If the Orange Ogre wins another term, I might sign up for the first trip to Mars just to get away.
There is no need to live forever, nothing does (except nothing)...if we were created out of minerals, then who is to say what will be re-created on down the road? Adaptation, adaptation... and secondly why are we running off from this home...when we haven’t fixed all the things wrong with living here? And when some space traveler has brain damage and ruins the ‘living’ at the ‘new place,’ do they leave and find something newer on another planet? Even if I wanted to visit...I wouldn’t want to live there! Lol
@EdEarl that is the only thing that makes good sense! As far away as possible from this trump ignoramus, Is desirable!!!
WOW! If, for some insane reason, someone wanted to study the effect of space on the body of a retiree.....I'm their woman! Would anyone else go? Not surprised they have a list of volunteers (with training, of course.)
John Glenn made his last trip into space at the age of 77. As long as you can pass the medical exam, you have chance at buying a ticket.
@EdEarl "buying'' a ticket? Mmmmm...probably not. I'd go as FREE.
@LucyLoohoo Not sure about cosr. Someone must pay. I once heard Elon say his goal was $100,000 per round trip. However, it is unlikely the first ones to go will cost so little, and no guarantee it will ever be that small amount. Would be an incredible experience, something to write a book about.
@EdEarl Hmmm again...maybe someone would give us a grant? To document "SENIORS IN SPACE"? It could be a sitcom...or perhaps a drama....just saying....
@LucyLoohoo Maybe, go for it. Wikipedia says Mars-one is a defunct, bankrupt corporation, but they srill have a website. Some have called it a scam, IDK. [mars-one.com]
Happy travels...this world is plenty big enough for me! Going there to die of mal-adaptation, just isn’t my idea of ‘take one for the gang!’
I agree with you; it's not for me. But many have agreed to go.
