Ugh. an icon. I loved him, too, until I couldn't any longer...another example of a great artist who just wasn't a great person.
BUT totally love Imagine

@crazycurlz care to elaborate why you say he wasn't a great person?

@IamNobody he was guilty of domestic violence towards his first wife, emotional abuse towards his son.
“I used to be cruel to my woman I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved…Man I was mean but I’m changing my scene and I’m doing the best that I can.”
~ John Lennon
In fairness, he grew and changed, at least towards Yoko Ono. But a man he remains.

What is the source if I may ask?.... Now, don't worry, its kind of clear to me that I am not going to change your mind and that's fine. One of the possibilities I can think of, those things get magnified when its about someone famous like he was even before media was as ubiquitous as it is today. Anyhow, what does a person have to do to be considered great? Another possibility is that he was harshly criticized for something he said about Jesus and it was taken out of context, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are plenty of "journal records" with questionable background which only intention is to tarnish his reputation for the reasons I have mention. Las thing I want to say is, to me he was great because contribute to quite few things still valid today, more than 40 years after he passed.

@IamNobody I think I just no longer put people on pedestals. Everyone has greatness in some way, through small acts or large. I think the older I get, the more tribal I become. I have a sense that what really matters, to me, is how we all school/swim together. Everyone matters in the dance of life. Every life is part of the greater good, defines who we are as a whole. There's no denying John Lennon's positive attributes, I didn't mean to do that and maybe I'm especially or overly sensitive to his malformed relationships with his first wife and son. Still working these thoughts through, and you are right to question..are my sources even valid beyond the commonly known behaviors?

@Crazycurlz thank you for taking the time, I read your response with interest and truly believe that is what this site is all about, exchange of opinion. Last comment on my part, no need to respond: I don't (me, this is just me) put many on a pedestal anymore, however this dude lands on a different category for me. Thanks again and have a wonderful week !!!!

@IamNobody don't get me wrong, he holds a place with me, too, as a musician as a free thinker. Truthfully, all you need to do is listen to Julian's interviews. John was an egomaniac who maybe mellowed with age? going forward, I'm not celebrating egomaniacs. I'll celebrate their contributions, not the whole. Thank you, too, for engaging, IamNobody. I respect your respect for him, I really do, and don't mean to tread on your toes! You have a wonderful week, too!

Yet an act of violence ended his life

Gone too soon, deeply missed and he didn't deserve to go like that.
