I desire to make an observation that has intrigued me since joining this site. Not a judgement, rather an observation.

As a teacher, it is agreed by many of my colleagues and myself that we spend a great deal of time trying to explain the significance of how first appearances effect how people react and respond upon first meeting. E.g. How, when a student goes for a job interview, first appearances can often decide whether you get hired or not.

Because a person meeting you for the first time has only sight clues to go on to decide whether you are safe to approach or a risk. Many are very fearful of those who appear too dissimilar to themselves. Its a shallow approach to evaluating another's worth, but it's the rule as opposed to the exception. We broadcast our politics and cultural proclivities by the way we look.

Now to my main point of this post. In many ways, the same can be said about the "monikers" people on this site call themselves. Because we have no way of evaluating one another upon first encountering besides our moniker. Its interesting what people name themselves. IMO the moniker speaks volumes about the person to which it is attached.

Some are cute, some are clever, some are insightful, some suggest the person is hiding.
It is an insight as to how that person perceives themselves. Regardless, it is the first impression many of us get into you. Just sayin'. Lol.

My last name was chosen by me after the second (and last!!) divorce. It is the last name of the sleuth in my favorite detective books by Dorothy L. Sayers. So I see no reason not to use it fully here.

I use the same moniker in many settings. I originally chose it years ago and I meant it to be understandable by a small set of people and enigmatic to the rest.

Same as me.

See now you got me curious as to how you perceived me based on my username. "Some are cute, some are clever, some are insightful, some suggest the person is hiding."
Do tell.

Confused? Lol. Or is that just me? I'm still trying to figure out how to say your name. Lol

ooh good. Then nothing bad then. It's a combination of 3 words demi feminist and gal. heh demi short for demisexual 🙂

@demifeministgal

thats what threw me. In some contexts "demi-" means lesser (as in demi-god). But I was pretty sure that was not the meaning you were intending. I'm not sure what "demi-sexual" means.

"Its a shallow approach to evaluating another's worth" Very true, perhaps you should tell them that it is a shallow world in which we live, and that if they want to live in a world where individuals are truly valued for their deep personal qualities, then there are still a few hunter gatherer societies remaining where they could go and live in an extended family. Assuming they can get in in the first place.

If I used my real name and picture, I'd have to kill one of us.
