Islamabad, Pakistan - A court in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore has sentenced a Christian man to death for having committed "blasphemy", his lawyer says, in the latest case of Pakistan's strict religious laws being applied against minorities.
Asif Pervaiz, 37, has been in custody since 2013 when he was accused of having sent "blasphemous" text messages to a former supervisor at work, lawyer Saif-ul-Malook told Al Jazeera.
The court rejected his testimony wherein he denied the charges and sentenced him to death on Tuesday.

If this god of theirs is so almighty, why does he need mere mortals to do his dirty work for him?
Because their god is almighty, mere mortals want to do his dirty work for him. IDK I'm just spitballing here. None of it make sense to me.
I would rather stand with Charlie than those that think Charlie Hedbo is something to kill over. No matter what theology, or even a lack of theology, that is so offended over blasphemy.
Religious people think (not) when they try to get blasphemy laws passed. This will mean one sect or religion cannot criticize another. It also means one can be accused and convicted for something some find offensive even if it is taken out of context or misinterpreted. This is not a slippery slope it is falling off a cliff!
Yep, I wouldn't be surprised if it was adopted in the States evangelicals would be calling southern baptist blasphemous at every sermon.
@AtheistNews Holy War!! LOL
Horrific...no humanity when religious zealotry takes hold of reason and the rule of law. That blasphemy is on the statute book at all in the 21st century is bad enough, but to have the death sentence as a legal sanction for a guilty verdict is downright brutal, and against all justice and human rights. Pakistan is not alone in having blasphemy laws, nor the only one in which it carries the death sentence, along with apostasy. All religions have at some time or another put to death those who dissent, but it seems that certain Muslim States particularly relish it.
Let's see, who's their big hero? The prophet? OH yeah, it was Muhammed. Well, I hate to break to all you faithful worshipers, but Muhammed was a huge fake. He made all that shit up. Is that blasphemous enough for you? But don't even think about punishing me because I'M NEVER coming to your country. And very likely never going to any Muslim country ever again. I'm retired, enjoying life, and I want to go where I can drink, party, fondle naked women, and have sex. Which is something all you faithful want to do as well, but you're hopelessly brainwashed in all that religious camel dung, and you're doomed to be repressed and suffer until you die...at which time you will NOT have any virgins to play with. Sorry. You were deceived. Does that make you feel bad, Abdul? Well, sweep ALL that religous shit out of your brain, escape from your shithole country, and go somewhere where people are free. (The United States used to be free, but unless we get rid of the Trump regime, our future freedom is in question.) Good luck.
And none of those women would want to be fondled by you.
@Jolanta Okay, if I understand you correctly, you think you understand women much better than I do. Hmmm, unless you're a lesbian, I don't believe that. I'm hetero, and I've had 100x more intimate and personal experiences with women than with men. Conversely, I don't understand men very well much more than I understand about myself. I imagine that you understand men much better than I do. But I'll bet that's not true concerning women.
