If anyone wants to understand why the court appointment of barrett is now so dangerous to the way we have lived in America since the mid 1930's Heather Cox Richardson's Tuesday History and Politics chat does a good job of explaining it.
It's on facebook and first few minutes are about polls and the role they play.

facebook is made up of all different people.. just because it's on f.b. means nothing... ALWAYS check the facts.

I refuse ALL Facebook links.
I despise everything Facebook, it's the Fox News of the Internet.
Boycott Facebook people.

Then look up Heather Cox Richardson. She is a history professor. Her book How the South Won the Civil War is excellent reading. Thru the summer she did a weekly segment on the history of the Republican party. It's always good to know where things and ideas came from.
I made excellent use of the filters on fb and limit who are friends so my exposure to crazy is limited, it easy to get good stuff and filter out the bullshit.

@silverotter11 Yea, I have the entire internet including the dark web to wander around in. Hanging out in Facebook is like AOL back in the day. For people that use those services Facebook is the internet, but like AOL it's just a small strip mall at the edge of town.

@Willow_Wisp I guess life is a competion - you win.

@silverotter11 I'm not competing, I'm just pointing out there's more. Your last comment is really confusing and off-putting, like I did something wrong for saying something.
Thanks I guess?

@Willow_Wisp See there we are, I felt your comment was a bit off putting I was just trying to share a link to a woman who has presented the history in a very engaging way. Not all the people on this site are as savvy with the internet, myself included.

Richardson spoke of the Court’s basing Roe on privacy, on which the Constitution says nothing. Antonin Scalia, an originalist, would base a ruling ONLY on rights named in the Const. So might Barrett.

In the earlier Griswold case, on Connecticut’s law prohibiting condoms for married couples, one opinion mentioned the Ninth Amendment but the Court used privacy to overturn the Ct law.

Read the Ninth closely. It says rights are not limited to the “enumerated rights”, those identified in the first eight amendments. If you know how to look up cases by their subjects (shepardize), look for cases in which a party claimed a Ninth Amendment right. There have been a few.

IMO, the Court doesn’t use the Ninth because it would protect more rights than America’s ruling class want their “subjects” to have.

btw, my wife was a leftie and in a restaurant booth I sat only to her right.

That was very considerate and very sweet of you 🙂.

In which of the many clips does HCR talk about Barrett? I read her history of the GOP, and am now reading another of her books.

The October 27th History and Politics Chat. The first third of the hour she talks about how polls works and when the election is actually certified.

It is insane that your top judges are political appointees and not there totally because of their merit as judges.

2

My biggest fear is not the repeals, it's the Supreme Court overturning the election.
