Who really has the moral high ground? Certainly NOT the USA.
Castro lecturing on morals is like Trump lecturing on humility.
Cuba is a small country and is so close to the USA that it was long considered part of 'America's Backyard'. In light of this fact it is quite amazing that the country has managed to hold out against its giant neighbour after it declared itself independent and not just a hegemony to be exploited by powerful American interests. It has been punished for 75 years for daring to be independent and since the fall of the Soviet Union there has been no other nation to come to its aid if the Pentagon were to be told to take it back with military force when embargoes failed to do the job and when the hundreds of assassination attempts failed to get rid of its leader Fidel Castro.
It occurs to me that perhaps that is the point, to hold up Cuba to the rest of America's Backyard as an example of what happens to banana republics that dare to ascert their independence. Haiti is a similar example to the descendents of African slaves who rose up and slaughtered their French masters more than 2 centuries ago. The Dominecan Republic stands in stark contrast to it's Haitian neighbour which is splits the island of Hispaniola with.
There are examples being made but they are not moral or high in their intentions.
In comparison to the USA, which has spent only a small fragment of time since it began in peace, it is like night and day. In fact, the USA has spent more time at war than all other nations combine, and that is not the act of a decent nation. Americans are so self-righteous because they listen to what the mainstream media tells them, they think they are "exceptional", but they could stand to take a look at their own history of international violence and repression. WTF are we doing in Yemen now? In Afghanistan for about 20 years . . . WTF for? When did it become the right of the USA to police the world . . . never . . . . the USA has been the main breaker of international laws for a long time now, yet people have this fucking holier than thou attitude, like they are entitled to fuck every other nation over . . . . it is hypocritical as hell, and listen to the people bitch about Iran, when was the last time Iran invaded a country, and what gives the USA the right to bitch about nuclear weapons, when the USA is doing nothing whatsoever to reduce their presence on the earth, and in fact is one of the largest weapons providers on the planet, and literally enjoys war-for-profit. If that is some form of moral high-ground, then count me wrong, but if you do, you will have to attempt explain away a lot of evil shit.
Did Fidel’s words and actions line up? I’m sceptical of dictators.
Cuba has a lot of graduates in basic healthcare and medicine and one of the ways the regime makes money is renting those medics to countries or regions with deficit of medics with a cost in general lower than a local medic.
So yes, they send medics, and for the same reason that USA send bombs... for profit of the ruling class.
