The Electoral College is an arcane, racist system. It derives from the racist decisions of the fledgling republic and the hubris of the then leaders. It serves no positive purpose. It also gives a weighted voting system for rural areas, reminiscent, although on a different basis, from the old, nineteenth-century Prussian system.

I'm on the fence about our electorate. We make catastrophically bad decisions all the time. I think one man, one vote, needs a fail safe. Not that I claim to know the best method. Ranked choice voting seems like a decent possibility.

Ranked choice is a great idea.
Does the EC provide the fail safe you believe is needed? Seems to me that it hands disproportionate power to the forces of conservatism.
