To my surprise, Thrift Books has been running an ad on national news sites (NBC, CNN, Slate, Huffington Post, etc.) with my 2007 book in the lead. I'm gobsmacked.
Thrift Books must have read the positive comments on Amazon. Maybe they like the photo on the book cover. Who knows? It came out of the blue.
I have grown since 2007 when I wrote it. If written again, I would include more of my feelings.
"I read your book several years ago and highly recommend it," Connie Flores said.
In third grade, I vowed never to smoke or drink heavily like my alcoholic father. Stuck with it. I come from a long line of alcoholics on both sides of the family.

Congratulation on your book. Very nice photos of you. My father was a heavy smoker and died of COPD. I hated tobacco and never smoked.
You made a wise decision. My father was an alcoholic and a smokeaholic, so I too have seen the damage it can cause.
My parents were both alcoholics. My father died when I was 17 and my sister was 13. I've seen the destruction it causes. It is possible to move forward on a better path in life. Alcoholic has never had much appeal to me although I might drink an amaretto on social occasion.
My brother and I did the same decisions!!!
Hooray!
And there you are, literally hiking! Wonderful! Congratulations!
I started to smoke, without inhaling briefly, (behind the proverbial church), as an early teen. I picked up real smoking in my 20's after learning to inhale weed. I stopped at age 31 when simple walk found me out of breath; scary. It's almost 50 years since then.
I just submitted a purchase suggestion to my county library.
Thank you for asking your county library to carry my book.
I feel honored.
Are you the cutie in the pictures?
Yup, that's me at age three.
And at 28 on a backpacking trip at Snow Lakes, WA.
A big congratulations is in order!! How thrilling for you.
Thank you, dear.
