It’s 27 years since the Northridge Earthquake. That’s meaningless to people who weren’t here (Los Angeles), but a significant event if you were. My partner and I happened to have a lot of camping gear, so we just moved out to our back yard.

Hi Fearless - I learned about tectonic plates in a geology class. Earthquakes happen everywhere.
