Biggest Contradictions in the Bible. I know there are so many to narrow the biggest down to one.

Here’s mine.

Moses went up to Mount Sinai to get Ten Commandments. One of the commandments is Thou shalt not . When Moses came down from Mt. Sinai he was so mad with the people that he ordered 3000 killed. Odd he did this after receiving the commandments one of which was not to kill

What’s yours

ha and lets just skip over the golden calf thingy huh
but fwiw surely no actual ppl died that day ok, and the passage reveals much more info as allegory, the giving of law, etc

Tsk. It was acceptable to kill people who blasphemed. I have read where some translators say the correct translation is "do not murder," and that puts a different spin on the issue.

One of the biggest contradictions that I see are the two versions of creation in Genesis. The order of creation if life is different and in the first, male and female are created at the same time.

I understand your point but nowhere in the Ten Commandments does it says Thou shalt not murder unless someone blasphemes. To me blasphemy is one of the worst things about the bible. It didn't allow people to even debate the merits of god and use reason. It's pretty much if you disagree with this then we will kill you

@abyers1970 According to the ancient Jews, I don't think that it would qualify as "murder." The priests decided what was blasphemy.

The biggest contradiction in the Bible is the concept of God, a being that is all-powerful and can instantly have anything he/she desires, yet wants things that don't happen and asks for things that aren't done. If you are all-powerful, there can be no concept of "wants."

The whole bible like the qur’an is one big contradiction!!!

That's explained with Moses being punished by God, not being allowed to get to the promised land. I mean it's all nonsense but unfortunately I know this. Deuteronomy 32:51–52 It's not explained in Exodus so they backtracked to fix their bullshit.

I think God was ok with Moses killing the 3000 people but his bigger sin was when he disobeyed god and smote the rock instead of speaking to it like god had said. “Take the staff, and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and tell the rock before their eyes to yield its water. So you shall bring water out of the rock for them and give drink to the congregation and their cattle.” 9 And Moses took the staff from before the Lord, as he commanded him. 10 Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels: shall we bring water for you out of this rock?” 11 And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice, and water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock. 12 And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.” (Numbers 20:8-12 ESV, emphasis added)

Was Moses grandfathered in?

Wait a minute, I don’t recall Charlton Heston doing that!

It tickled me when I read about king Nebuchadnezzar seeing the handwriting on the wall.

Daniel 5:6 - Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another

Not really a contradiction.
All four Gospels contradict each other.
Mark seems to have the most human Jesus up to John which has Jesus as the boss on the cross.

Illogical post or simply hacked ?

Should read 3000 killed. Corrected it

There are many including,
" Thou shalt not make graven images," ooops the Catholics in particular have screwed up on that quite badly,
"Thou shalt keep the Sabbath Holy unto Me," Chrustians still have NOT figured out which actual DAY is the Sabbath,
" Thou shalt NOT have other Gods before Me," With Chrustians Sky Daddy suddenly gets relegated into the lower league and Jeebus Chrust jumps to the top League plus brings a whole heap of others up there with him,
"Thou shalt NOT covet thy neighbours wife/chattels, etc, etc," it seems even the pious Catholic Priests, etc, etc, have screwed quite regularly on that one,
" Honour thy Father and thy Mother," then Jeebus Chrust comes along and tells everyone that " He has come to set Father against Son, Mother against Daughter, etc, etc," a case of Divine mis-communication if ever there was one imo,
The list IS almost endless, so I'll stop here rather than cause others to read more of what they already know, etc.

Good points. Though actually the eleventh comandment, there are eleven. Thou shalt not make graven images. Is a late addition by protestants, not found in early editions.

@Fernapple
I believe there was 613 commandments in the OT.

@Fernapple In actual fact " Thou shalt not make Graven images" can be found in the original Latin version of the buybull.

@Triphid Oh perhaps I have been misinformed. I understood that it was a late addition.

I prefer to spend my time/life ignoring The Babble!

Ah but is it NOT in times of sheer boredom a great source of laughter considering that it IS somewhat humorous Fiction at its very best?

@Triphid I have read it cover-to-cover(except for the Begats, of course) 2x times in my life, once as an 11 year old believer...when most of the sexual content totally escaped me. I also delved into parts as the fancy took me....in my young "seeker" days...also Tarot, astrology, Wicca...it was the 70's! (Astonished at what i missed/misinterpreted as a kid!!!!!)
And i have an interest in the Apocrypha , weird stuff!
Then a few years ago I had a friend, nice guy in many ways & smart, but totally into 100% literal interpretation, which i could Not reconcile....he was continually quoting sections & putting a good face on them, so i dug in & got right back at him, using quotes too...it was amazing what i remembered from age 11, scary, really.
But to look into it for reasons to not"believe"? Bah, Humbug! (Which it Totally is!)
But"humorous"????? ..gory,nasty, oh,and wallowing in gore seems more like.....

@AnneWimsey By 'humorous, I meant humorous that anyone in their right mind could believe such utter bullshit.

See that has some bending room. To kill vs. to murder, with a certain frame of mind, one could call the killings just as they were done for breaking the not worshiping other gods/graven images/etc. commandment. Not that I agree, but that would be a logical explanation. I find the 2 different stories of creation to be a bigger contradiction. They can't agree from the first story, so WTF?

But what "logical explanation" can there be for killing/murdering another human being?
And Yes, there is the question of Euthanasia, but that is imo, permitting a fellow human being who is suffering from either Terminal cancer, etc, etc, or other illnesses, etc, to actually die with peace and dignity rather than in, often, terrible pain and anguish.
I agree that Euthanasia SHOULD be permitted BUT I do NOT see any logic in either the biblical mass murdering/genocides nor one or more humans merely killing another or others for what-so-ever reason/s they put forwards.

@Triphid You forgot your biblical glasses, silly you. "They" are just godless enemies and would probably kill "us" if "we" didn't kill "them" first. Besides, "they" are not giving "us" the land that "we" were promised.
That said, I can, in specific circumstances, see justification where killing would not be as bad as murder. Semantics, I admit, but killing in defense as a last resort is one such example. I am also an omnivore, so killing (not humans) for food would also be acceptable to me. Euthanasia and suicide would also fall under those categories for me as well.
