Yesterday was Candlemas when some Christian sects celebrate the presentation of the infant Jesus to the Temple. this is done 40 days after the birth as stated in the gospel of Luke.
It also states that Mary and Joseph fled to Egypt after the birth and stayed there for several months until Herod died and they came back.
Come on guys it can't be both.
Yesterday was also groundhog day and apparently the beastie did see it's shadow so we are in for another 6 weeks of winter.

Herod the Great died in 4BC.
Herod Archelaus died c18 AD.
Herod Antipas died in 39 AD.

Take your pick - the biblical account is nonsense whichever you choose.

Also there is no record that people had to go to their ancestral birthplace in order to be counted and taxed as the bible states

Time passed differently then. Lots of folds and creases. 🙄

Like Noah’s 500 years

I can remember many times as a christian that someone would say something that would contradict the bible or my beliefs. What they said made perfect sense and actually got me to thinking about what they said. However as a christian i would always convince myself that it wasn't true and that the devil was just trying to tempt me and my faith. I would do the figurative "stick my fingers in my ears and go NANANANANA i'm not listening" trick. Since i'm on this site, I've come to realize it was a matter of immature and ignorance on my part to not listen to the truth and believe in something invisible. Many christians are like i was and ignore hard concrete evidence and believe the evidence they've made up in their minds. They may feel like what you say is valid but the fear of hell and punishment for believing that is greater so they close off the "Reasoning" part of the brain and won't listen to it

Welcome to the real world

@Canndue It feels good to be in it. Honestly things make alot more sense since i joined it

Congratulations to you!! You are one of few to rehabilitate yourself from your old ways, in the same manner Alcoholics and heavy drug users / addicts do as well as cigarette smokers (This was the hardest one for me).

@CuddyCruiser Its a process and i'm more at the beginning than the end. I still find myself with the old religious thinking sometimes but now am aware of it and try to snap out of it

@abyers1970 It takes time and it certainly is a process. I attended catholic school until 8th grade and attended Sunday Mass Brainwashing until age 18.

It wasn’t until 9 years later that I declared myself an Atheist. Remember belief systems are pretty much the same as habits we develop, Religion, alcohol and drug abuse all fit in with this. We become “Conditioned”.

Take solace in knowing your on the right path. 👍 🤝

Exactly. It could not have been both. As far as winter goes 6 more weeks might be in store groundhog or not.

We are having one of the coldest and snowiest winters for years and the sad thing is that all the ski centres are closed because of the lock down

The Groundhog at Gobbler's Nob is not stupider a belief than the Jeebus story, the virgin birth, he has risen, walk on water, water into wine. 6 more weeks of winter? It looks it.

At least we know the Groundhog is real and can see him

@abyers1970 Is he ?. I'm a bit dubious about this Punxutawney Phil. Grounhogs live for around 6 years and this guy has been around since 1993 or earlier.

@Moravian The event at Gobblers Knob had been going on since 1887, but out goes back way further.

@barjoe So Bill Murray wasn't the first to see him then 😉
