Sure you can. The snake may be mistaken in its knowledge of other life but its intentions are good so should be applauded. All that's needed is to use the moment as an educational one. We can't save the lost life but it can save the lives of others. This assumes that the snake is not merely lying to cover its need to eat, which is also natural and okay, but the common practice of lying should be rejected with a firm but non-judgmental rejection of that practice. After all, we all lie to preserve our strongest interests (please keep the objections to yourselves as I'm disinclined to believe some of us don't. In fact, I think such claims are merely attempts to gain the high ground, and power, within a conversation.
