Was just informed by 'Jesus Jockey,' aka the Evangeloon next door as what caused his somewhat severe Oil Leak and his ruptured Radiator in his vehicle.
First, the oil leak.
Well, he said that "He decided to do his own Oil Change at home rather than paying a Mechanic to do it."
Well that is OKAY just so long as you KNOW exactly what you are doing and HOW to do it correctly.
But, as he just told me, " He was almost finished WHEN he suddenly remembered that it was time for his regular viewing of the local Religious TV Channel here, Channel 54, so he was in such a rush that he ONLY screwed in the Sump Drainage plug to just over finger tight instead of using a socket and wrench to tighten it properly so it must have worked loose and began to leak out the new oil."
Secondly, the radiator in his vehicle was getting blocked with sediments so, " He decided to replace it RATHER than having it cleaned out by a Registered Mechanic to save ."
He then, in his "infinite wisdom" (LOL) " Decided to fitting a second-hand radiator from a smaller engine capacity vehicle of the same make because it was offered at cheaper price, thus saving him a bit more ,"
He has JUST gotten his vehicle back from the Workshop where he was informed that, fortunately for him, his engine had seized up due to the oil leak BUT the radiator was way to small of a capacity to handle the extra pressure that his engine Cooling System required and, as such, had built up so much excessive pressure that it caused the seam at the top to rupture somewhat catastrophically.
So, now he has his vehicle back with a Bill from the Mechanic of approx. $780, it sounds just bit quieter than a Wood-chipper on Steroids, runs as rough as sand-paper even though it ONLY has just over 44,000 Kilometres on the clock and has a distinct possibly of needing a FULL engine replacement within the next -18 months, all thanks to his "infinite wisdfom (LOl)."
As they say " You can teach a monkey how use a typewriter but do NOT expect it to write a novel" apllies to Evangeloon as well here imo.

It's either religion or technology. Man cannot serve two masters.

The effect of giving preeminence to belief and emotion over reality and common sense.

Never a dull moment!

I really don't know how that guy has lived so long. He certainly never seems capable of learning anything.

Ah but he tells everyone He is a fully trained and Accredited Stone Mason, Auto-mechanic, Expert Welder in both Oxy-Acetylene and Electric-Arc, the Second Best Surfer in Australia, a Builder, Concreter and a Boat Builder as well.
I literally shudder when I see some of his welding, masonry work and so-called building jobs.
I mean, what Expert Welder goes through 6-8 Electrodes just to weld hinges to gate, a small and light gate at that?

@Triphid Expert blowhard as well, comes to mind.

@Lilac-JadeCanada Yep, and imo, about as useful as a Chocolate Tea-pot as well.

@Triphid Or deep fried ice cream.

I raced Dragbike for a few years. There were people who shouldn't be working on anything. I saw so much stupid crap I was amazed they weren't dead by now. I didn't scrimp when it came to safety.

Yep, I've done my own Oil Changes for as many years as I've had, owned and driven cars and rode motorcycles and NEVER once made the mistakes like he has made.
I had a Datsun 200B Station wagon back in the 89's and early 90's, it was second-hand and in the temps out here it would overheat from time to time so I replace the radiator with one from a 2.4 litre engine capacity Nissan Navara, perfect fit btw, same make but different name.
Replaced the 2 litre Water Pump with one from the 2.4 litre Navara and she never overheated ever again even when towing a 7x4' Box section Trailer loaded down with Firewood on a 110 kilometre trip back to town.
Never replace the radiator with a smaller one, ALWAYS go bigger but NOT too much bigger and ALWAYS have it cleaned by a Professional Cleaner BEFORE putting it in.
Jeez, I always used a stuff we call 'Gorilla Snot,' aka Aviation Gasket sealant, on the Sump Drainage Plug as well, a bit harder to remove when draining the sump BUT at least you KNOW that the plug will NOT work its way loose at least.

@Triphid

You might enjoy this guy. Michael Caine lookalike.

@Triphid I'll be. We called your 200b here in the USA a 610. I had one too. 1800 cc engine stronger than hell.

@PondartIncbendog Brought fond memories of the times when I re-built from scratch ( what we call a Basket case btw) a Bitsa ( B.S.A.) YB33 model Single Pot, 500cc motorbike.
Bought a trailer load of bike pieces for $50 that turned out to be 2 full bikes, both were YB 33 models so I sold off the second one so I could buy the new parts, etc, for the one I was rebuilding.
That bloke certainly was a lot 'politer' than me when I was rebuilding....LOL.
