Watching the new documentary series "Wild, Wild Country" on Netflix and thinking, "Well, at least I didn't grow up in a cult that manufactured salmonella to control political power!"

Anyone else watching it? What would your Utopia look/be like?

I live in Oregon, not to far from the scene of the crime. Shelia was and is a conniving, power made little monster. Documentary was enlightening and reminded me of a lot I had forgotten.

This show was recommended to me by someone but I was unable to find it. Now that I know it is a documentary I will go back and check again. Thanks

I read your post and all I could see was salmonella. WTH? I had salmonalla a few years ago, out of the blue. Put me in the hospital; sick, weak, ready to die. Now I am going to have to watch the documentary.

oh, yea... it's nuts. Also, very well done!

My utopia would be me getting out of my head and enjoying life as it comes at me. Seriously.

Bc that question usually is about worldbuilding, I'd say it would be a permaculture farm where the weather always cooperated for crop yield, staffed by people who washed their own dishes without being asked and played music around a bonfire, located close enough to public transportation that we could go enjoy art and lectures in a city.

I watched it a few weeks ago. Scary stuff.
Not sure how my utopia would go.

I cut off my Netflix when I had bad Wi-Fi. I rarely watched Netflix anyway.

I was living in Oregon during that strange time and had two friends who were in the cult. One of them went to India to save his brother and father but succumbed and came back in red. Sheela was the undoing of the group. The locals we're pretty awful too in my opinion. Anytime a revered guru is surrounded by armed guards something is not right in paradise.

Oh, wow. Yea, the collection of 93 Rolls Royces seems like it would be a tip off that the place had its priorities out of order.

A friend of mine has been encouraging me to watch it so I did watch the first episode this afternoon. Having come out of a cult myself, it was a bit familiar but I just couldn’t get into it that much. There is a lot of difference in a Christian cult and a New Age one. I can understand the draw it had for young people but I don’t think I personally would ever have been drawn into it. My experience was being raised within.

Plato's Republic meets Star Trek.

With me as Philosopher King for Life, of course.
