Joking aside. this is a seriously worrying revelation. Doesn't the rest of the world manufacture anything? How can one sanction China, when there are few alternative sources of goods. How have big corporations, chasing greed targets, been allowed to destroy their countries of origin?

As you say it is greed. I can remember when virtually all the goods which came from china came out of christmas crackers .
International trade is crazy. The rest of the world ship raw materials to China and China sends manufactured goods back.

@Moravian ... and then the rest of the world bemoans it's lack of employment opportunities and demands the government does something about it.

Where are the Chinese invading?

Ask half the countries of Africa. China gives them huge loans, with no questions asked about where the money ends up.
Then, when the loan repayment is due, and they cannot pay, China "accepts" infrastructure in lieu and gains control of things like harbours and railways.

@Petter I was thinking of how the US will have to send its Mediterranean fleet the long way round to rescue Taiwan!

@FrayedBear Nah! Just nip through the Panama canal.

So far numerous attempts to refloat the vessel have failed. This could go on for a month.

Freed at 14.00 GMT, Monday 29th March. Now limping North towards the bitter lakes with water in two bow compartments.

@Petter Refloated 06:00 Central Africa Time. Still haven't opened the Canal yet though.

@barjoe The canal authority will have to check the area for damage and silting and also ensure the culprit ship is well out of the way.
However, not only will the backlog of ships have to be cleared as rapidly as possible, but there will also be serious congestion at the destination ports. The repercussions will last a while yet!
