Uber ordered to pay $1.1m to blind passenger who was denied rides 14 times
Arbitrator rebuffed the company’s position that it wasn’t liable for drivers’ behavior given their status as contractors
I had a regular blind passenger when I drove Uber. I asked her if she would like help into the business and would help her get into the car but asking, instead of presuming, was appreciated. Doesn't surprise me that people are rather thoughtless, though. Especially Gig drivers. They have to consider getting sued if the person is hurt while being helped. Lose-lose situation but you can't say no to it.
The horrifying aspect of this is that there were 14 people willing to leave a blind lady stranded on the street at night regardless of the legality.
