Regarding: yesterday's verdict.

Someone posted the original police release describing the event that resulted in George Floyd's murder. Fairly straightforward.

Until the video surfaced. The woman who recorded the murder is the hero here.

PLEASE Any time you come upon a police interaction, and especially when it involves people of color, film it.

And, elsewhere, some states are pushing to make filming cops illegal.

And that is something that should make everyone afraid, even white folks, because once cops are above all accountability, then everyone is vulnerable to being victimized. And I have no doubt that without the video, Chauvin would have walked.

I know it is risky but if a half dozen people had got up in their faces about choking Floyd to death, even if just verbally, I can't help but think he might still be alive. The good Samaritan law should apply up to stopping police brutality and extra-judicial street executions. We've all been conditioned to stand back because cops are dangerous and shoot people just because they are afraid. Its sad we are at that point.

I'm glad you weren't a juror. Must've been watching Court TV. Vinnie.

Just out of curiosity, how many of those bystanders do you think would have been arrested or shot for trying to interfere?

Additionally, the defense worked really hard to make the crowd of witnesses a factor.
If any of them had acted to interfere, they could have used that to bolster their defense.

The "samaritan" laws generally do not protect bystanders against law enforcement crimes.
Perhaps that may change going forward.

@barjoe I've no idea what that means, doesn't seem relevant.

@barjoe, @KKGator well maybe if they weren't black none. But since cops distracted from their execution of Floyd would probably not have killed him that would be a good result. But Floyd not killed and a bunch of bystanders arrested would probably not have reached a level of national attention - which is sad, someone actually had to die to maybe, possibly make a bit of difference. Although recent events perhaps indicate we have decades to go on that front.

As they say... The road to Auschwitz was built by hate but paved by indifference. But no one ever said giving a f**k was an easy road to take either. Just ask MLK or anyone who put their neck on the line for the needs of the many over the needs of the few.

@prometheus Why should the bystanders be arrested?

It’s so sad we need to do this — but thank goodness for smart phones these days. Just imagine how many past injustices the police have been able to get away with without such damning footage to set things straight.
