A young man from Texas moves to California and goes to one of those big "everything under one roof" stores looking for a job.
The manager asks, "Do you have any sales experience?β
The kid says, βSure, I was a salesman back home in San Antonio.β
The boss liked the kid so he gave him the job.
βYou start tomorrow kid, Iβll come down after we close and see how you did.β
His first day on the job was rough but he got through it. After the store was locked up the boss came down to see how things went.
βHow many sales did you make today, kid?β
βOne.β
βJust one? Our sales people average 20 or 30 sales a day! How much was the sale for?β
β$101,237.64β
βWhat the hell did you sell?!?β
βFirst I sold him a bag of #8 fish hooks, then I sold him a bag of #1 fish hooks, then I sold him a set of lures. I then sold him a new fishing rod.
After I asked where he was going fishing and he told me he was going to the coast, I told him he would be best off with a boat, so I brought him over to the sea craft department and sold him that 24β² twin engine Yamaha.
While I was writing that sale up, he told me he was doubtful that his Silverado could manage it, so I took him down to automotive and set him up with the 4Γ4 F350.β
βSo, you're telling me that a guy came in here today to buy some fish hooks and you sold him a boat and a truck?β
βNo sir, he actually came here to buy a box of tampons for his wife and I said, βWell, your weekendβs shot, you might as well go fishing.β
It's like the joke about when you take one wet wipe out of the pack to wipe the dirt off your shoes, then you wipe all your shoes, then you go over to your desk, and so you end up with your car. But I had a similar story with the fishing equipment. I went to a hunting and fishing store near Lake Michigan with my friends. I wanted to buy a new reel. I was afraid mine might break while fishing for pikeperch. Then I realized it would be a good idea to buy some good line for this reel. Then I realized that a new jerk bait would also go with it. Then I remembered that I had seen a cool combination for pikeperch on fishingcreative.com. And so I left about $5k at the cash register. I didn't expect my pikeperch to be this expensive, guys. My friends laughed.
He's never going to make it on one sale a day.
True story, happened just the other day.
