Having thoughts about the connections between D.N.A., Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA or mDNA), and cognition(thinking, self awareness and intelligence capabilities).

Does anyone know of any information or scholarly work making any connection between these?

I'm not sure there is any direct connection with a mitochondrial DNA and intelligence. If I'm not mistaken isn't the mitochondria a bacteria that has established a symbiotic relationship with the rest of the cell? Passed on in reproduction solely by the mother by way of the egg.
Thank you for this post, I just spent 3 hours reading science journals on mitochondrial activity in nerons.
It's very different from any other part of the body. It's also sent me on the path to rationalizing conscientiousness as an emergent property of this mitochondrial activity.

Slime mold is sometimes called a superorganism: an organism made up of organisms. The slime mold is both many and one at the same time — and therefore catnip for philosophers like Keats.

After you understand brainless slime mould cognition among many single, single-celled organisms on this small scale, contemplate on a larger scale of homo sapian and a greater single cognition among the single homo sapian organisms. Perhaps it is what some have come to call it "God".

@ReubenDS as to meme lifeforms, I don't think the way I see things or understand, I don't think it was Richard Dawkin's original understandings or intentions as to what the mind organism is implicating.

I find by observation, that when understanding the "meme organism " it actually gives the best understanding of what the biblical text is saying about Jesus character.

At certain levels DNA could be said to provide some simple animals with their intelligence, especially single celled animals which do not have brains or nervous systems. Many amoeba have very large genomes, which give them the powers to respond to many things, like chemical changes in the water in which they live. But when once you have multicellular life which develop a neural network, then that largely bypasses DNA as a provider of thinking.

However body chemistry can deeply effect the way our brains work, but the actions of DNA are only one component in that, things like digesting sugar and alcohol, have perhaps more rapid and dramatic effects.

DNA does of course determine to a large extent, the type of brain and neural network you get in the first place. There is undoubtedly a genetic element behind intelligence, if that is what you mean. And things like autism and Alzhiemer's may be in part genetic.

Amusingly, I am also told that several studies have shown that there is a correlation, in males only, not women. Between intelligence and the gene which controls body hair. So that if you are a man, and you don't feel the need to shave your chest, then you can give up on the Nobel Prize, its just not going to happen. Einstein was furry. LOL

For having no brain or neurons, slime molds — a.k.a. Physarum polycephalum — are incredibly intelligent, capable of solving complex problems with extreme efficiency. An additional plus: They’re naturally nonpartisan.

My understanding is that earthworms also have these things....do you see any correlation?

Interesting to consider the worm cognition. Information maybe helpful to my query.

The nervous system of the earthworm is "segmented" just like the rest of the body. The "brain" is located above the pharynx and is connected to the first ventral ganglion. The brain is important for movement: if the brain of the earthworm is removed, the earthworm will move continuously. If the first ventral ganglion is removed, the earthworm will stop eating and will not dig. Each segmented ganglion gets sensory information from only a local region of its body and controls muscles only in this local region.

D.N.A. is a form of intelligence. I understand mD.N.A. has to do with A.T.P. production, but it's still a form or type of D.N.A.

Starting as a zygote, both D.N.A.s are present and built to your cognition intellegent capabilities.
