Neil deGrasse Tyson stated that philosophy is dead. Richard Dawkins stated that there are no authorities in science because every scientist is subject to continual peer reviews. Doubtless, there are many people who swallowed the notion that philosophy is dead because it was uttered by Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Many academic scientists are in the employ of pharmaceutical companies and governments who have their own agendas, See Richard Lewontin The Doctrine of DNA (biology as ideology).

A Smart brother .Labels are not a prerequisite for non belief just logic and common sense.

I despise labels .He is absolutely correct in explaining why he does not want to be labeled an atheist.I do not believe in religion or a deity but I am label free .It’s hilarious how the members who label themselves atheists and agnostics argue amongst themselves on this site which is no different than individuals of different religions who do the same thing .The last paragraph says it all.

He is a brilliant man and I agree with him on this matter.

Tyson is uncomfortable being definitive about anything, lest he offend someone and his popularity might suffer. His obsession with being popular and 'liked' borders on the pathetic. I rarely take any notice of him, on religion, atheism or anything else. Yes, he sprouts science, but he lacks the one thing a great mind and intellect must have: courage in his or her convictions, and standing by them. Life isn't about a popularity contest. Leave that to shallow politicians and celebrities. Sadly, a celebrity is what he really craves to be.

I've read that before. He's buying into the nonsense of it just as much as he complains others are. To not try to correct the misconception that atheism is a "philosophy or movement" instead of simply a lack of belief in the metaphysical nonsense a vast majority of Earthlings buy in to is pretty shitty, but I understand why he needs to do that for his brand management.
