I don't think he's getting played, he benefits from voter suppression and could easily lose a primary challenge in a free and fair election.

If McConnell wanted to play with Manchin, McConnell would dangle some bait, and tell Manchin he would get Republican votes if he does this, that or the other.

If I can believe the news, McConnell is not dangling any bait.
