My daughter is at 30 weeks in her pregnancy. They've found a problem.....velamentous cord insertion. Normally the blood vessels are encased in the umbilical cord and enter the placenta in the center or at least near the center. This enters onto the side instead and the vessels fork apart and aren't "in" the cord on the end they enter the placenta. This means they could become compressed during delivery or detach which is a whole other option that I really don't want to consider. One or both could bleed to death in that option.
Currently, they're thinking to induce her at 37-38 weeks with an option to hurry a c section if needed. I have a flight to go out there after delivery. I'm going to have to find a rental car and I know it won't be cheap.
Anyone else ever heard of this? I haven't! Glad they found it ahead of time! Baby is a little on the small side....which is why they tested her for things. But flow is good through the blood vessels.
Sounds like they have allowed for most contingencies, it's just a matter of keeping the options at the ready. I'm sure your daughter will be glad to have you there for support!
I hope your daughter and the baby are going to be okay. [webmd.com]
