Are introductions a thing? I mean, I've been here for a couple of days, and I'm at level 5, So, obviously, I'm enjoying it, but, I haven't read any introductions, nor have I made one. I'm not big on stalking profile pages, and even the couple I did check out, I don't know, that kind of thing always seems so impersonal... So, who wants to say hello?!

I think introductions are mostly done in people's profiles. There are a few peopel who will introduce themselves on the discussion boards. Personally ithink yo ulearn a lot about a person from their discussiosns themselves.

Hello from southeast Virginia!

Hi and welcome. You can tell who's visited your profile and who lives closest to you. Much to discover.

Greetings and salutations.

@Reikodriver1981 I’m not unwell thank you🙂

Try becoming a greeter, and helping newcomers settle in.
If someone makes comments that resonate, then you visit their profile page - it is not "stalking" - and provided their profile resonates, you can choose to "follow" them. Your own profile page shows people you are following and people who are following you. It's all quite open, which is why I am almost adicted to this site. (Did I write "almost". Scrub that word!!)

@Reikodriver1981 I am my usual, obnoxious self. 🙂

@Reikodriver1981 Except that I tend to smile at the same time, which ruins the illusion!! 🙂

@Reikodriver1981 Try an upside-down coat-hanger in you mouth. Saves a lot of muscular effort! 🙂

@Reikodriver1981 out there as usual. How are you?

@Reikodriver1981 good

By 'introductions' do you mean messaging? I try to message one new person each day. I don't see the point in just passively waiting for things to happen. Generally, my experience has been positive. Most people, if their profile passes muster, are pleasant, if not pleased. There may be the odd car crash of course, just as in life.

Have you opted to become a "greeter"?

@Petter No. I'm pretty new here, and once a day is enough for me; personalised, based on a comment or response to one of my own comments.

Hi! I'm new even though it seems I started this account a while ago. I'm here because I'm a born and raised atheist who only has one person in her life and he's Christian. I CAN'T talk about this stuff with him and I need to talk about it. So here I am.

Kind of a large and pervasive part of yourself that you're unable to share especially since you've been atheist your entire life. Is he your SO?

Welcome

Take full advantage of it. Most of us love discussing "stuff". A member posted a link to this half hour video on Youtube, which you might enjoy watching - I did!

Yep he's the SO. I really need to get out more.

Well I'm not sure how to reply to your situation. Is it otherwise healthy? There are a lot of insightful and emotionally intelligent folks on this site if you need to discuss anything. If you read our posts and comments you can get a sense of who you might want to talk to. Take care.

It only takes one to start the trend. Go for it.

@Reikodriver1981 You will get that here ( smile )

Hiya lad. How are ya? I am contemplating getting up for work. What are you up to?

@Reikodriver1981 just parked up at the university I teach it and contemplating the walk to my office. I can see it from here but its miles off...all up hill then culminates in 8 flights of steps!

This place advertises itself as a dating site. People come here for that reason and then discover what a great community this is and get absorbed in that. I think that's a good thing. Anyway, it's OKAY to view profiles. If you think you might be interested in someone based on their profile, you can follow them. Then you'll get alerts when they make posts which will help you get to know them a bit. They will know you've viewed their profile and will know you follow them, so if you're a bit shy, this is a subtle way of indicating possible interest. Just jump in with both feet, participate, and if someone seems interesting, reach out directly. Have fun!

I've seen ads for dating and community. For some reason, I think the dating part sticks out in people's minds.

@Reikodriver1981 You may be pleasantly surprised in time. People here have met and dated and formed relationships. The plus to this format is the ability to interact without pressure and expectations. Interactions can lead to attractions and bonds to some degree. Welcome to the community.

@Reikodriver1981 I totally agree with @BlueWave. The beauty of this place is you can interact in the community sort of like you would in the "real world." You're not just jumping into the fray forraging for a date. You can get to know people here through their posts and comments and can comment yourself. I can almost guarantee you will see persons of interest here and things can, and do develop. Every post or comment here is not a dating interview. It's just a bunch of like-minded people talking about whatevs. Things blossom from there.

I started to when I joined, but I ended up making it my profile. Do what you're comfortable doing. It's kind of laid back here.

Oh, and welcome.
