I wonder what would happen if life insurance companies started putting fine print in saying they would not pay if the insured refused to get vaccinated not based on any religious or health reasons.

Apart from this idea being illegal under present law, how would you go about verifying religious conviction? Or health concerns?

No, not based on those. Just these idiot antivaxxers who are otherwise vaccinated for childhood illnesses.

While at least one life insurance company company in South Africa has set a precedent to charge more premium for the unvaccinated and provide incentives for the vaccinated, I believe more companies will follow. It's like being a smoker, you pay more because of the health risks associated with smokers.

This same question came up in my household tonight! Once the vaccine is officially approved, I see no reason insurance couldn't state "get vaccinated or we won't cover your hospital stay if you get it".

It should be a fairly easy move for them to take. We'll know early next week!

And how does religious exemptions help the community? This is about the whole community and tribalism should not be allowed.

I agree, but that's a 1st Amendment right. So untouchable.

@Notlost Actually it's not. The 1st amendment says the government should not make an exception for religion. It basically erects a wall between the church and state. I think too many politicians are afraid of messing with religion but now that the 'nones' are rising in power that may change.
In the recent FFRF newsletter there is an article on how the 1st amendment is being watered down by the religious zealots.

I have heard that some health insurance plans are starting to not pay for hospitalizations related to Covid if the person refused to get vaccinated before being infected. I wish that was enough to get them to get vaxed, but I doubt it will, as they will just assume it could never happen to them...

I don't think religious beliefs should be considered, health reasons yes, religious reasons no.

Agreed. I've always thought the same for all vaccines. If you choose not to vaccinate because of religion, you can home school.

@JonnaBononna AND stay away and keep clear of EVERYONE else as well imo.

Since I'm assuming that you meant to put that " they would NOT be covered by Insurance if they refused to get vaccinated," I'd say it would be a truly wonderful step forward by even those money-grubbing Pocket Gougers.
