Went to an open mic Tuesday night to do a couple of songs.
I was pleasantly surprised when my friend, Charles, showed up. I had not seen him in about two years.
Shortly after I did my songs, Charles got up and did a stand up comedy set. The last part of his set was based on the premise of what if Robert deNiro had a trivial job, and how would he come across in those circumstances.
Charles had the audience call out a trivial job for him to incorporate into the bit. Someone said, "Dishwasher," and Charles did a dishwasher with an over the top deNiro attitude. When he asked for another trivial job he got janitor and, again, did a brilliant depiction of deNiro as a janitor, complete with attitude.
When Charles asked for a third trivial job, there was a smattering of murmuring, but no real suggestion forthcoming from the audience. I guess they were trying to come up with anything else as trivial as dishwasher or janitor. When he practically begged us for one more trivial job I decided to have some fun and yelled out, "Stand up comedian."
My three word answer got the biggest laugh of the entire evening.
