So, then, why on earth would any government require people get a vaccine that could lose 85 percent of its effectiveness within a year? Why would any government force its citizens to get a vaccine where people who take it can still pass it on, die from it and catch it?

Because the vaccine isn't the real issue. Governments have seen this as an opportunity to impose its will on its people. Many citizens around the world don't have the ability to fight back against their government like we do here in the United States.

European governments and even Australia have shown their desire for power and control over their citizens. They don't care about vaccinating their citizens, their only concern is to impose their will on their citizens using the vaccine as an excuse.

You know, it just blows my mind you REALLY think this is not about providing for the general welfare of all of us (which is spelled out explicitly in the Constitution as one of it's enumerated powers) but as a power grab by a repressive, dictatorial government.

This would be laughable if so many people didn't believe it---because some people in power benefit and grow rich by spreading this irrational paranoia.

A very good argument could be made that Americans are spoiled rotten by the almost TOTAL freedom they enjoy.
They apparently regard ANY call for collective action is an unacceptable abridgement of what they seem to think is their right to exercise ABSOLUTE freedom, regardless of the well being of their fellow citizens.
All that means to me is the social contract which used to bind us together and make us an unstoppable force is being shred to pieces.
In this case, conservative politicians and their bosses above and followers below, use alarmist rhetoric designed to sow distrust in some citizens toward other citizens, because they think--with justification--that the only way they can rule is through fear and violent disruption.
This allows them to call for the opposite of freedom, which is "law and order," not against an external threat, but against each other, which weakens all of us.
And without that strong "social contract," the freedom you keep bellowing about is impossible. It's only when a people feel safe and secure in their homes and possessions, by trusting in and cooperating with each other, is this freedom possible.
TOTAL freedom is anarchy. There has always been a tension between freedom (what is good for the individual) and what is good and necessary for society-at-large.
In other words, to live in a civilized society, it is sometimes necessary to give up a certain amount of freedom for the benefit of everybody. That's just the way it has to be.
Freedom can't be limitless; neither can the needs of the 'commonweal.'
There must be a balance, and rather than the scales tipping too far toward socialism, they are being tipped in the opposite direction, and our society is losing its cohesion.
But you don't see that. An increasing number of people agree with you. And that's what worries me.
