Not any more ,a good example is what the recently appointed Mayor of NY (Eric Adams ) did with most of ALL his appointments.Color and Gender were obviously his objectives from what I have seen here in NY.

I dunno, would the fact that Trump selected three very white, very Xian justices count as both racist and religion-ist? Especially since they obviously weren't the most qualified to enforce the Constitution, having shown a clear religious agenda?

In a very broad field of equally qualified candidates, selecting someone belonging to not just one but two underrepresented communities might be seen as leveling the playing field. And for bonus points, he's not doing it 8 weeks away from an election.
