The nicest sweetest [most devout] woman in the world I work with was nearby when we were talking about our favorite shows. When someone was aghast another hadn't seen Breaking Bad, she asked what it about. I joked that it was a heartwarming story about a high school teacher who gets cancer and tries to make as much as he can for them before he dies. When she asked how, I said he used his knowledge of chemistry, following that reluctantly with "to make crystal meth". She joked back, "That is a heart warming story!"
The next day I was recounting the story and joked that Carol was going to start watching. She said, "Oh, no, I'm not going to watch that. Someone contributing to the demise of others. I like stories where everyone lives happily ever after."
I pondered aloud, "Are there any of my shows where they live happily ever after?"
"The Sound of Music" she exclaimed.
To which I had to reply, "Isn't that the movie with the Nazis?!"
I should have left it.
The hills are still alive but the music is as gunfire: never a bridge too far.
