What’s the difference between “ misinformation “ and “lie”? The only thing I can think is if you misinform people you’re going congress, if you lie you’re going to hell.

The former is largely benign in the sense that ignorance is mostly in play there and not malice, while the latter is intentional and thought out at least somewhat.

For example, if someone were to claim that the part of the Second Amendment where it mentions "well regulated" means for a governing body to step in and regulate, that would (for the most part anyways) be an example of misinformation and not necessarily someone deliberately telling a lie.

That aside, your take on that was good, got a laugh out of that one. Somethin' tells me though that after mentioning such an example as I did above, that I'm gonna go to "hell" for that one now, lol. Think I broke the first and most important commandment there... thou shalt have no other gods than the gods of gun control, as technically I rather indiscriminately held another "god" in higher esteem. Oh well, the highway to hell doesn't sound too bad...

Misinformation might mean you're spreading information you don't know isn't true.

Lying is deliberate.

What's this "hell" thing? You must have taken a wrong turn, @Garban.

Misinformation is a form of lie where one claims they don't know for sure if it's true or not,... While when lying one knows for certain they're not being truthful.

Well, IMO a lie is when you deliberately don't tell the truth. If you pass wrong information but without having the intention of deceiving it's misinformation. Of course that is from an idealistic point of view. Sometimes it's not so clear.

Misinformation could just be misunderstanding of what you are told. A lie is done on purpose to benefit the liar.

Intention ?
