When I was released from the hospital after the suicide attempt, I found this site and mydisabilitymatters.com. In a surprising twist of fate, the site creators, a husband and wife team based out of Australia, have offered to help in a variety of ways because I've offered random assistance on their site.
They bought the laptop pictured. I got it in the mail Sunday. They sent $100.00 so I can pay for WiFi installation, scheduled for Thursday.
They also want to purchase a domain name for me because I've expressed an interest in starting a blog about mental illness. I don't know what to name my site, though. LOL
I don't want to use my name. It's already taken anyway. But, since I eventually want to change to my mom's maiden name, I don't want to be stuck with a website using my father's surname.
So, I thought about:
"Editor's Note"
"Letter to the Editor"
"Editor's Corner"
I even tried "Ellipsis."
But, all those domain's are taken.
They can be purchased.
But....
The domain name that's a variation of my name is, like, $2.50
whereas
any of the above suggested names are like $12-15.
I want to start out using this as a mental health blog but would eventually like to grow it into a site for my editing work.
So, I need something unique and versatile.
Any suggestions?
Kudos to you for what you're doing, first of all... And kudos also for finding this community. I've only been here for a short time, and already, it feels like a good, supportive, kind community of kindreds. It's good to have a place to go, where you feel surrounded by like-minded friends. Suggestions? It's hard to make a suggestion for a name without knowing more about the tone of your blog... But I'll say this: grab a thesaurus, and play with the terms you feel associated with... The name you're trying to come up with is probably already in your head- but maybe some good, old reference material will help tease it out.
Thanks. I have thought of something like that. Started Googling newspaper/newsroom terminology. I worked for the college newspaper.
Regarding the tone of the blog, I want to start out with it as my way to bring more awareness to mental illness, especially depression. But, would eventually like it to be where I advertise and promote my skills as an editor/writer.
I always use the name of my favorite pet of the moment. Or the name of the town I'm currently living in, since I'm still in Thailand and the cities have cool names.
For a website??
@Melbates Well, not as is..I would try to change it enough make it cool. I named one proposed business after my Asian Fairy-Bluebird, by using a graphic of the bird with spread wings and called it Bluebird___Agency. I used my favorite terrier's name for a lot of things also.
Enjoy your new computer.
Thanks, honey.
