Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Castro, Putin, and Kim controlled the press didn't they?
They did their best control or suppress the free press, and vilified those they could not. Since the US is not a dictatorship, Trump and Nixon could not really control or suppress, but they both certainly vilified it.
@Flyingsaucesir They did not vilify those they could not control. They killed those they could not control.
@BD66 Oh yes, they have had many journalists killed. But those beyond their reach, those outside the borders of their respective countries, they vilified.
@Flyingsaucesir True.
I'm not so impressed with today's press, either. Nobody is acting very honorably in this age of violence, manipulation, and avarice so their failures are not overly surprising for me. I mentally discard about half, maybe more, of what talking heads say, predict, or warn about and get a few versions of a story that is of interest (there are very few) to feel informed about it. Media needs massive correction and oversight but they're more likely to self-correct as ratings indicate. I mostly watch their segments on YouTube and avoid cable costs.
I think most news outlets are doing a good job. The really egregious offenders, like Fox News, News Max, One America News, and Breitbart, are few. Unfortunately, these few do tremendous damage.
@Flyingsaucesir CNN is damned near garbage and CBS included Mick Mulvaney with cream-filled Christie for analysis. Even Fox didn't want them. I do like MSNBC but always watching for their liberal manipulation. I vote Dem so find the slant reduces cred and tells Dems nothing. We need a return to early CNN coverage. Maybe Cronkite (who would have another heart attack over Mick).
I already named some bad actors. Here are some good ones:
The New Yorker
The Washington Post
The New York Times
The Nation
The Atlantic
PBS News Hour
CNN
MSNBC
Harper's
The Independent
Reuters
and others.
PS, by "good" I do not mean perfect.
@Flyingsaucesir Other than CNN, or NYP, they are more credible. I would agree with that.
@rainmanjr The New York Post is okay for lining a bird cage.
