In the time of attacks on abortion there is a huge backlash. A very informative article, ‘The Abortion Underground,’ was printed in the latest “Atlantic.” [theatlantic.com] This was a long (7 sections) read but sections III and IV were the most informative.

Some take-aways😘”According to a study published earlier this year, clinics as far away as Maryland and Washington State saw a rise from patients in Texas.”
”Activists in Mexico, whose Supreme Court decriminalized abortion last year, have been planning on helping Americans with access. Some are already getting misoprostol into the U.S. by foot and by mail.”*

” Yanow told the story of a woman named Jennifer Whalen, in Pennsylvania, who bought mife and miso online for her pregnant 16-year-old daughter. After the teenager took the pills, her miscarriage began. She became frightened when stomach pains hit, so Whalen drove her to an emergency room and told doctors about the pills. The daughter was fine, but Whalen was charged and pleaded guilty to offering medical advice without a license. She was given a jail sentence of nine to 18 months.”

” People in similar situations need to know how to present themselves to doctors, Yanow said. “They can say they’re having a miscarriage, or they’re bleeding and they don’t know why,” she explained. According to Paul Blumenthal, a professor emeritus of obstetrics and gynecology at Stanford University, it is safe for patients to self-report this way; a medication abortion is clinically indistinguishable from a spontaneous miscarriage and treated in the same fashion.
Later in the class, it was time to role-play. Yanow gave each of us a part. Some of us were six weeks pregnant and seeking abortion pills. Others had information to share and a mission: Pass it along. The goal was to avoid giving direct advice, because that could be construed as the unauthorized practice of medicine, a criminal offense. The key, Yanow said, was avoiding “that forbidden three-letter word: y-o-u.”
For me the last sentence applies not only to this topic but the way too many on this site reply to others.

🤬🤬🤬Have not learned one damn thing from Prohibition! Creating a generation of liars - OH! it's for a great need to protect themselves but it's not a good way of life and it's not good for democracy.

There has been learning and that is how to circumvent certain rulings. The end of prohibition was brought about because of all the extreme violence it caused. We don't need to resort to violence but backlash can still be had with other means some of which I have listed. Could you connect with the Atlantic report?

I am glad to see that the state is going to be putting someone in our front rooms and bedrooms to make sure we are doing our lives correctly. Vote these bastards out of office.

Unfortunately, we can't vote the judges out.

@JackPedigo We can impeach them for not doing their jobs in accordance with the Constitution. Or we can put more in so the number of liberal judges outnumbers the conservative. Or we can argue against them and make them see what they are doing is wrong. Of course, this would mean it would take a lot of effort and some smart people. They exist.

@dalefvictor And what are the chances any of the present conservatives can be impeached. We couldn't even impeach the POS president for obvious crimes he committed over and over.

@JackPedigo Yes, it will be difficult or extremely easy, it depends on who we put in office in the next few elections. It would be nice if every repub was voted out of office.
