Staying Optimistic! Have you heard of the new media site called "Only Sky" which is for atheists, agnostics, humanists, freethinkers? I recently started following the site, so blog posts come right to my FB feed.

Here is some good advice for what we can do (instead of praying) when the events of the world are getting us down.

In addition to the 6 ways the author mentions, how do you stay optimistic during these trying times?

For me, I just try to have faith in humanity that good and right will prevail. We can speak our truth and share our concerns with the people who can actually create the changes we want to see. I try to adapt to shortages by using less and finding alternatives. Sometimes I feel I'm helping the most by just staying home, using very little resources and choosing my times out socializing carefully so they do me the most good.

What do you do to stay optimistic?

I haven't heard anything about it yet. But for me, this platform is quite an interesting alternative. Thank you for the information.

To me 'optimism' and 'pessimism are forms of emotion and are either based on 'doom and gloom' or smile and denial. We need to look at the real world and hope a bit of luck changes the direction we are headed.

This is the key one:

That’s why you shouldn’t invest your entire identity in politics. It’s important to reserve time for leisure, so you can occupy yourself with something calming and rejuvenating that doesn’t remind you of the world’s troubles. I find it helps if it’s something you do with your hands or your body, because physical activity gets you out of your own head. It demands a focus on the present moment that keeps you from dwelling on anxious or pessimistic thoughts.

Turn off the damn cable news and live your life.

I choose to do so without the need of any type of crutch.

I have always been an optimistic person. I have my moments of pessimism, getting out in to nature always seems to help me.
