Am I the only one that thinks the world was better before smartphones, fb, social media etc ? There is irony in posting this on social media..I get it. But, I’ve gotten off facebook and don’t always have my phone on me. Texting is a poor substitute for real interaction & speaking. —-I am happier and healthier away from my devices.
Everything is double edged.
Cell phones are great if you remember before them.
They're also annoying. I turn mine on when I need to use it.
. Internet is great for ideas, information.
Also a propaganda tool and echo chamber.
. It's all in how you use them.
That's fine for you, but I remember a time before the internet and I vastly prefer being able to communicate with people far away without either a hefty long-distance bill or time wasted waiting for things to arrive in the post.
I prefer up-to-date info for most of my research, and to be able to do said research at a moment's notice instead of having to work around the operating hours of a library or bookshop.
And most of all, I prefer having a GPS to direct me while driving over getting lost, hesitating at intersections and ending up ticketed, or taking a wrong turning and ending up late.
Social media sites have actually helped me to make more in-person contacts than before and to keep up with friendships that otherwise would have died. It's helped me gain perspectives from around the world instead of just my small physical space. This may sound like an ad or an inspiration piece but it's true.
Social media hasn't created strife and division, it's simply revealed more of what people are like.
In some ways, but I've also kept in touch with some people that I'd otherwise have lost contact with. I have a friend that often takes texts the wrong way, which is painful and people just don't get why I don't want a smart phone, but I don't. BUT I do like this site, it's interesting and keeps me learning.
Total mixed bag for me. I'm now more aware of events that are happening around me and also more aware of breaking news. Unfortunately I am also more aware of the giant pretzel my friend had for lunch or that someone else is suffetingcfrom a headache. The good news is that it helps pass on at lightening speed all good things happening but then just as quickly passes on fake news and crazy cults that now a lot of people want to join. I still opt for in person visits as much as possible because texts, FB, and Twitter don't quite make it in the human touch category
They all have their place...in moderation...just like everything else.
The world was better. People talked to each other in lines and doctors offices etc. Peopled smiled at each other as they passed.
They still do that now.
In some ways it was better, we had far more one-on-one relationships, in the immediate area of our lives, instead of around the world. but learning about the world, is a positive thing to...
Years in the near future something else will come along and then someone will say, is it just me or life was better when we only had smart phones, fb and social media ???..... In other words, it's always the same
We are never a loss for something to COMPLAIN about!!
Never at... Not a loss...if you want to wax lyrical# utilize proof reading !
