The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck.

There's a lot of truth to this. A philosophy I've pretty much adopted on my own later in life. This showed up in my youtube feed and I thought it worthy of sharing. I'm enjoying listening to it.

One of the best things I ever heard a therapist say was that a real sign of emotional strength and security, and the sign of a mature adult, is getting to the point that you can listen to someone who is very different from you and doesn't really know you, tell you that they really hate you or don't like you, and be able to take it and walk away without giving a fuck what they think of you. All because you don't need their approval or acceptance and both know and are good enough with who you are, that the opinions of people like that don't matter.

It is totally the opposite of bullies, redneck assholes, and MAGA Trumpers, whose feelings are so brittle, and who are so easily riled by the slightest insult or offense, that they immediately escalate directly into wanting to have a fistfight, rather than rationally or calmly discuss any conflict or differences. They, unlike the adults in the first paragraph, are emotionally arrested adolescents, who never grew up, at least emotionally. They have no self-discipline or self control.

@FvckY0u I just know that I am more evolved than that, because even when it's some asshole that I could easily take and pound into the ground, I am never tempted to just move immediately into a physical fight to settle a dispute or conflict, unlike these assholes and overgrown children, even if the guy is calling me everything but a white man. Because I am mature enough to use my words and realize that nobody like that is worth choosing to fight rather than either talk or walk away.... In fact, I don't even need to argue with them, because I already know firmly in my mind, that I am smarter and better than them to begin with and don't even need to prove it to them.

Some of this is interesting. He was able to see himself as he was. We should all do this and do it without lying.

@FvckY0u FYI, I found his next book to be weaker and repetitive but not without some insights. As I recall, this one kind of ran out of steam toward the end. I think it's his over reliance on fuck to be funny but the book's great until then.

@FvckY0u As I said, it gets wearing toward the end. Any funny word gets old after a while and fuck is no exception. Just takes longer because we are a juvenile society who made a big deal out of the word. I listened to Mark's books on YouTube but usually take in interviews or lectures. Look back over my posts as I share those that have value. My favorite self-help book of all time is The Road Less Traveled, by M. Scott Peck (who didn't take any of his own advice and died from alcohol).
