After nearly a 2 year battle with the VA, I got my first shingles shot yesterday. It really hit me. Not as bad as the covid vax, but put me in bed by 10 and up at 9 still feeling down. Has anyone else had this type of reaction to the shot?

I had both doses of Shingrix earlier this year and I don't recall any reaction to the shot. Lucky for me all recommended vaccines are totally covered by my insurance. I'm happy to lessen the chance of ever having shingles again!

Hope your side effects are short-lived. I haven’t had the shots yet, because they are not covered AT ALL by either Medicare or my very expensive supplemental insurance, Blue Cross, and they are $175 per shot with two being required. This country does not value the health of its citizens.

I remember when they first came out they were upwards of $600, It seems like as serious as shingles is and cost of treatment, that medicare would cover it.

@glennlab Vaccines only seem to be considered necessary if they are profitable for someone; a person’s health be damned. I haven’t had a spare $175 any time in the last couple years. A recent examination of my costs showed a 25% increase in every day expenses since before the pandemic. Much of it being the cost of health care.

I'm on Medicare and all my recommended vaccines are totally covered. I get my vaccines at my local CVS pharmacy. Not only do they not charge me, they give me a $5 coupon to spend in the store, plus keep a comprehensive record of all my immunizations.

@Julie808 Medicare does not cover the Shingles vaccine.

@MsKathleen Huh, you might be right. I just checked my vaccine records and I got my shingrix doses just before my 65th birthday, so perhaps it was with my previous medical plan, before medicare. I'll have to check with my new plan, now that I'm on medicare.

The first of the two shingles shots hit me like a ton of bricks....the second one didn't phase me a bit.

I hope I have your luck, but I'm not going to count on it.

I am unbelievably lucky when it comes to vaccinations. None of them have bothered me anymore than a slight sore arm. I've had three covid shots and a flu shot this year and maybe go get my omicron booster. Last year I had the two shingle shots and did not have any reaction whatsoever.

Despite that I know people do have reactions and I hope you're feeling better by now Glenn.

When I was younger (lots) I got yellow fever and plague shots the same day and had no reaction. The first shot I even had a sore arm from was covid.

I'm glad the VA finally cleared you for it. I'd already had shingles before I got the vaccine, and it still kicked my butt for about 30 hours after each one. But it would have been worth it even if the vaccines were worse to assure I wouldn't get it again. I hope you're feeling on the upswing, and that it doesn't dissuade you from the second one.

I felt worse after each of my covid shots, and I've had "mild" shingles, so even if I have another bad night after this one, I'm going for the second shot.

I don't remember if I got sick from Shingrix or not. I had 2 shots and I got the 2nd shot 3 years ago. I can tell you this, my brother doesn't like vaccines, I won't say he's an antivaxxer, but he doesn't trust them for safety. He came down with shingles in June and it settled in his scalp across both eyes and his face. He's been suffering so badly, it breaks my heart. I'm glad you had the vaccine and make sure to get the 2nd protocol. A day or two of listlessness is a small price to pay. I wouldn't want to see you suffer like Paul has. You did good Glenn. I'm glad you got the shot. It works. Unlike the Zostervax vaccine it replaced, Shingrix is 90+% effective.

I haven't had the vaccine for shingles yet but I have heard people having reactions to it, hope you're feeling better!

I'm still dragging and cold, I had to soak in the hot tub to warm up and had my winter blankets out last night.

@glennlab Did you call your doctor? I would. This may not make you feel any better, but often side effects mean you are getting a strong immune response.

@barjoe I was warned about the side effects, I'm already feeling better, but it kicked my ass for 2 days.

@glennlab I'm glad you're feeling bette. Better than getting Shingles.
