Anyone else tech-challenged?

I suppose most of you are good with technology, but I am once again suffering through a new product learning curve.

Even a simple 7" android tablet is challenging for me, and I had to run across the hall several times to get my Thai university student neighbor to help me change the tablet language to English, and set it up, since I can barely read Thai.

Last night I kept watching Huawei set up instruction videos on YouTube, but few are in English since the Huawei brand is mostly sold in Asia.

I even walked back to the Tesco-Lotus mall a couple of times to ask the Thai girl who sold it to me for help. I can speak Thai well enough to be instructed but reading in Thai is problematic.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet I'd had since 2014 quit a few days ago, so day before yesterday I traveled to the main Hat Yai Samsung repair center and they said it would cost 6,000 baht ($200) to replace the hard drive.

I was already frustrated with the Galaxy Note because the Kindle app didn't work correctly, no matter how times I reinstalled it.

It would load Kindle books for me to read on a trip, then refuse to play them offline, or just say they'd not been uploaded, or even make the book vanish while I was reading it.
When I took it to three different Samsung repair centers they just shrugged and said Samsung has done an automatic update of my Kindle app so I could only read books online. I don't believe that, but the app still wouldn't work.

The Galaxy Note camera is excellent, but I plan to buy a Kindle Fire tablet when I get to the US, and just need something for reading Kindle books, temporarily.

I decided not to get the Galaxy Note repaired, but bought a new 7" Huawei tablet, 8 gb, with wi-fi, for $113 instead.

The Huawei camera is total junk, but I mostly want it for the Kindle app, to read books offline, and it works perfectly for that.

I uploaded a book to read today while traveling and it was still there when I opened the Kindle app, so already that's an improvement.

I'm surprised I can even get on this site, that's how challenged I am. You're lucky to have someone to help you, I can't seem to be able to get anyone to do that.I need to be shown, not just told most of the time.

I took advantage of the Thai Buddhist people's kind, helpful nature. Plus, I learned that any Thai person from age six up can adjust any digital device I have. I suppose the US kids are like that also, though, and I remember my high school students in Mexico when I taught there in 2001 being far ahead of me in anything tech. I was born in 1952, and spent part of my childhood before there were even transistors!
Life is a constant learning curve (sigh).

You’re not challenged. You’re just learning something new. There’s always a learning curve. I remember learning to thread a needle as a kid. It’s easy now but at the time, it was an absolute bitch.

I am a dummy with smart phones....my Android seems to have a mind of its own. I thought it was me, but it has to be malfunctioning. SInce I do not use it much, I never cared, but my new job does require me to use it in the field, and it is frustrating.

Change is always hard. Once mastered, a new skill seems old and familiar. Until we have to change again. Rats! Then we have to start all over again. Be patient with yourself. It will all become easier--until the next change. Life!

Learning is hard. It's the difficulty that makes us strive through and helps the acquisition of knowledge and skills. Just understand the pattern of your learning process again and again, and see whether it can be optimized and made efficient in anyway, like taking notes, like asking others, like using mnemonics, like any other means. If the learning goal is set and the patience and perseverance are there, any curve will be reduced eventually. You seem to be doing all the right things.. ; )

You are taking the correct steps. Its a process. That little thing you understand today is the one that will help you to understand something else the very next day. The process is exponential, the more you learn the fastest you get where you want to be. The important thing is do not get discouraged. If something didn't work the first time then you can always come back and try again. Keep trying to develop the skill of paying attention to detail. Most of all, do not get overwhelmed and be patient and someday in the near future you won't have to say you are technology challenged. Some know some stuff, others know something else. There is no such thing as knowing all. You'll get there.
