Of course they are going to say they don't know. They don't want to piss off the NRA.

They're not about to comment on one of the ugliest things they foster because it serves their interests. In spite of the horrific carnage, they get rubles from the NRA and votes from gun nuts. And, they benefit from the intimidation of non-Republican populations. As the victims are usually being non-white, Republicans offer thoughts and prayers, and then wink and nod to their bigot supporters.
